Lost all audio after May, 2021 Windows 10 update!!!!

At some point, after the May update I lost all PC audio! I've done all the 'no sound' troubleshooting suggestions from Microsoft and everywhere else. I reinstalled all audio drivers, you name it. I even shut down my MSI onboard HD audio in bios and purchased a

Soundblaster Audigy RX sound card, No dice. bought Driver Booster Pro and updated them drivers. Wasted cash!

It's as if the sound just can't get to my output jacks. Foobar doesn't work, NO audio!! You can see the level meters pulse when you test the sound devices. When I unplug the connectors going to my preamp, they pop and buzz so I know the cables to the analog stuff are hot.

I NEED HELP AND I NEED IT FAST!! I'm starting to TWITCH!! I believe it's Microsoft's doing.

To open 'Windows Registry' in the command prompt, press and hold Windows key + R. In the 'Command Prompt', type regedit, then press Enter. The 'Registry Editor' will then pop up and you will want to click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Then SYSTEM. Then CurrentControlSet. Then Control. Then Terminal Server. Then WinStations. That is how you get to the actual 'Windows Registry' with the 'Binary Data' and 'Values.' Now, you are going to want to Export the Winstation .REG Folder by clicking File Export. Save to a safe place.

At this point you are safe to create your own separate .reg document. Right click on the desktop, click new, click text document. Make sure to edit the end of the document to .reg from .txt. Then copy and paste inside the .reg document you just created, which you can name 'Fix_Audio.'

Just want to say this worked for me and thank you very much to whoever the genius was that figured this out. The issue has been plaguing me for months and that ease of access workaround was driving me crazy.

To pay it forward, this registry edit originally did not work for me and I don't have much experience editing registries so I kept getting the error "Cannot import file: The specified file is not a registry script."

The problem was because when I copy and pasted, there was an extra space above "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" in the file. That needs to be removed for this fix to work.

Then the audio will continue to be disabled until you restart your computer. Once you done so, it should work normally and perfectly.

This fixed my sound issue with 21h1, but the Ctrl Alt Del is still there (but I can live with that)

Thanx for this fix!!!

MicroSoft's recent Windows 10 updates have really caused more problems than I can see have been fixed. Is the B-team working Windows 10 now? Are they trying to drive people away to upgrade?

It's gonna drive me to Linux...

I would say it is likely their C-team! :)

My local audio isn't a problem. But now I can listen to one online video (youtube), but no sound on a second. I have to reboot to get the sound back -- but only one video with sound, the second with none.

I hope I can go back to the prior version -- this problem has existed since May, I only just updated to 21h1. That this hasn't been fixed in all this time is unacceptable.

Nikolay , acatually, CTRL-ALT-DEL fix is also described in this thread, launch secpool.msc , then Click Local Policies to edit an Audit Policy, a User Rights Assignment, or Security Options, find the relevant line and enable/disable.

I also followed your way with copying of Default key , and this worked ! Can anybody explain what actually happened ?

1) I work from home, and only person with access to my PC is my woman, whom I do not have anything to hide from so I usually never lock the PC.

Due to this, I mostly did not even notice the Ctrl+Alt+Del issue. :) But it is there, trying the fix now, please stand by.

EDIT: Works! :) No longer needed to press Ctrl+Alt+Del on the lock screen.

I followed the guide here:

2) Great! Thanks for letting me know the Registry key copying worked.

I think Microsoft happened. ;)

May the source be with you...

I have same issue, twice!

One time early 2021 and i did the rollback by windows restore point, solved!

And now (4 weeks ago) after windows 10 update (version 21h1) i cant do the rollback (no valid restore point available...)

Now my Acer VN7-592G has no sound again... not fixed yet!

I've tried some procedures:

1) Reinstall drivers ( old by Acer and newer by newest Acer's and Realtek );

2) Check Audio services and RPC service.. all ok, running;

3) Fixed MMAudio regedit permissions...

4) Fixed ConsoleSecurity registry entry... in my case the values was there, but i do...

5) Update drivers with Driver booster...

6) Did latests Windows 10 updates (this week)...

Anyone has other procedure to solve this problem ?

I was just running through the same-old, same-old trying to fix this and when I searched Windows Update for drivers updates (I'm running the most recent ones), there was an optional update for Synaptic something, sorry I wasn't paying attention because I didn't expect results. However, downloaded, installed, restarted and the next thing I knew I had chime after chime as notifications popped up.

I see Synaptic has to do with touchpad, so there might not be a connection, but if it's available, why not try it?

Check for Updates (result says current)

Optional Updates on result page (Synaptic)
