The custom error module does not recognize this error.

Split from this thread.

Hi Microsoft Community, I am trying to sign in to: https://outlook.live.com/mail/inbox, but get the the following error message: "The custom error module does not recognize this error."

My hotmail.com, email account has been around for several years.

Please help.

Regards,

Robert

Hi Robert,

Thank you for standing by, I really appreciate it. This error message usually happened if you are accessing an Outlook Web Access (OWA) web-based email client. Just to verify, are you using a business or a personal email account? Have you tried accessing your email account using other browsers or devices?

In the meantime, we suggest checking the Service health status of your Outlook.com to check if there’s an error with your server.  Here is the link.

Please respond to this thread to let me know how the issue progresses. Similarly, if you have more questions, please inform me by replying to this post.

Hi,

Having the same problem signing in to a client's webmail (which I was able to access 2 days ago). Identical error message.

I can access the email account using Firefox but it's a huge hassle to have two browsers open.

My personal Outlook email functions perfectly.

I tested the "health" via your link and all appears fine.

Any suggestions?

According to your link everything is healthy, but I am still receiving the same message namely:

The custom error module does not recognize this error.

I am using Google Chrome

To GrandpaLes,

Have you tried accessing the email you want to open with Firefox?
It's the only browser that lets me into my client's email.

Nothing suggested anywhere has fixed this problem for me on Chrome.

I have found a solution to this problem! At least it worked for me, on Chrome.

On the site you're trying to access, right-click on the "lock" icon at the top left of the address bar; the click on Cookies. Remove all of them except the one which pertains directly to the email you want to access (alternatively, remove all of them and re-enter the URL you usually use).

My link was immediately reestablished.

In my case, a second cookie belonging to my client's company was the evil culprit.

SUCCESS!

Hi All,

Sharon and GranpaLess, Pleae note that the link shows everything working OK. I kind of solved it with a workaround - I go into the address bar then go to the end of the address and hit enter, and boom it works.

I tried to do what you asked me Sharon, and issue is that I have purchased a personal Microsoft Office 365 and I'm connecting with my employers online Office 365... I think that's what's creating the problem...

Did what you asked, but didn't want to block or erase any because they all look legit, and I have no idea to which one this belongs (I'm having this issue with my personal hotmail session.):

Any help would be most appreciated!!

RobertFraschetti,

What worked in my case was to delete all cookies except the one corresponding most closely to the URL of the email I wanted to access. In my case, I had a stray cookie linking directly to my client's website, which turned out to be the problem.

In your case, I would delete everything except outlook.live.com as it is obviously the cookie necessary for you to log in, according to your screenshot.

You can always try opening another browser such as Firefox to see if you can log in (I was able to - only Chrome caused problems for some reason).

Try deleting the extra cookies, what have you got to lose at this point? I'm no expert, but this worked for me instantly.

Good luck!

Thank you, that did not work but I switched to Firefox and that resolved the problem.

It would be interesting if you checked the cookies Firefox is using to see how they correspond to the ones Chrome is using - that's how I found the "intruder" and fixed my Chrome access!
