Hissing noise with new Microsoft Surface Earbuds

I'm an early adopter - got them on the day of release.

There appears to be a glaring issue, and I wonder whether they're particular to only my pair.

Basically, whenever there is about to be sound played - such as unlocking of the phone, start of a phone call or music, white noise hissing appears, sometimes with a "pop" and then lasts about 2-3 seconds after the sound stops. Even if no sound is played, quick locking or unlocking of the phone results in a 3 second noticeable white noise hissing sound.

Please advise. Does anyone else experience this issue?

This hissing noise (very low) and the silent pop is present in some of my other earphones also, so I didn't even react when it appeared on my Surface Earbuds.

My Bose SoundSport does the exact same thing, so does my Sony WI1000X, but with the Sonys it's less noticable. I'm thinking it's a bluetooth problem, but I dunno.

Is it for Bose Soundsport that are attached to each other with a wire or the two separate ones? I am thinking it is from the communication between the two earbuds.

I am returning these things.  The audio quality is unbearable.  Paired to my Surface Book 2 (with all latest updates).  When watching a video or listening to music, when using the airbuds headphones, it stutters the entire time.  If I switch to headset, the stutter goes away but the sound quality is terrible.  Very analog.  Not good.

I am an electronic engineer and have the exact same issue with my earbuds and this annoing hissing noise. As electronican I can tell that this sound should come from the amplifier that is in the earbuds. As soon as this amplifier is turned on, this hissing noise is there. It sounds like a bad calibrated amplifier.

I would accept this for a 50 dollar thing. But I will not accept this for 200 dollars. How can I get a replacement?

I agree, as $29 Anker ear buds seem to work just fine. Clearly there were glaring issues prior to release as this product seems poorly tested and half baked while being 6 months late. Bose is also about 6 months late with their latest ear buds.

Do you think this calibration issue is specific to certain units, or is this fixable with firmware update?

Same problem: As soon as the earbuds amplifier is on, this constant noise starts and is very annoying especially at low levels. Tried them with Surface Pro and Iphone, same result. It is in my knowledge a unique case (not happening with my Sennheiser Momentum or my Airpods Pro). It is a shame because apart from this problem, they are very good, very comfortable. I was ready to use them on a daily basis. I hope this issue can be fixed with a firmware update otherwise I do not want to use them with this background noise, it's not acceptable.

Hello, everyone!

We apologize for the troubles you have to go through with the pop/hiss sound on your Surface Earbuds. We have raised this to our team internally. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and we will get back to you as soon as we get updates on this.

Regards,

Janette_Z

Could you also please internally raise the hiss/pop issue on the Surface Pro 7, that I reported 6 months ago, and re-open my thread?

And the Surface Pen pressure staircasing issue on the Surface Pro 7, X, Laptop 3, that I also reported 6 months ago?
