Lose Font (Bahnschrift SemiBold Condensed) When I Save/Export/Print to PDF from PPT

Hi -

I am using PowerPoint in Office 365 and I created a PPT using the font Bahnschrift SemiBold Condensed. This font was provided as a part of PPT when I downloaded Office. I wanted to share the PPT with someone via email, but when I do, I lose the font. I have already tried to:

- Print as PDF (changes font)

- Save as PDF (changes font)

- Export as PDF (changes font)

I have tried to select the option where you:

- Make the file PDF/A Compliant

- Embedded fonts in PPTs when saving (characters only)

I have had no luck - any suggestions? Thank you!

Hi Gdcartwr,

We tried replicating your issue here on our end. Here are some screenshots that we have before and after sharing the PowerPoint file as PDF via Email as well as Save/Export/Print to PDF:

We noticed a slight difference with the typographical emphasis of the font after sending it as a PDF. Just to verify, are you experiencing the same change? If not, it will be better if you can send screenshots of the changes that you're encountering when you're trying to

Save/Export/Print to PDF. In this way, we can further isolate your concern. For more information on how to add a screenshot in your reply/post, kindly check this article created by Shawn 'Cmdr' Keene [MVP]

You can also share your file by uploading it on OneDrive. Then, get a linkand post it in your reply. If you want to share it privately due to personal information that might be included on the file, you can reply to the private message that we've sent. To view this, click your username or account name on the top right corner of this page. Then, click View private messages

We look forward to your response and if you have additional questions, please let us know by replying to this thread. This way, we'll get notified and respond back to you as soon as we can.

To retain the appearance of fonts, please try File>Save As>PDF and choose the Standard (publishing online and printing) option.

If you are using Adobe Acrobat to print your files, please tell us that.

Please note, not all fonts are created equal. Fonts from small foundries that lack the ability to test on all platforms may not meet your expectations.

Hi John -

I tried this, and the problem persists. I am not using Adobe Acrobat. I am using Save as in PowerPoint, and then choosing PDF as the file type (I have done so trying your suggestion as well as selecting under "More Options" both the "PDF/A Compliant" and the "Bitmap text when fonts may not be embedded." The font remains incorrect in all sets of options.

Thanks - let me know if there are any other ideas!

Try this:

After exporting the PDF, open it in Reader or Acrobat.

In Reader/Acrobat choose Edit | Preferences

Click Page Display on the left

Look to see if Use local fonts is checkmarked.

If it's NOT checkmarked, Reader/Acrobat will use only fonts that have been embedded in the PDF; if a font is called for but not embedded, a different font will be substituted.  It looks like that might be your problem.

If it IS checkmarked, it'll use fonts installed on your computer, so should look ok.

Hi Steve -

I have followed your instructions and it is checkmarked, and it does not look OK - it looks like the screenshot above. Here are the reader screenshots:

I appreciate your help - let me know if you have any other ideas!
