IMPORTANT

Windows 10, version 1809, will reach end of service on November 10, 2020 for devices running Windows 10 Home, Pro, Pro for Workstation, and IoT Core editions. These devices will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. I couldn't find where discussion for Microsoft Visual Studio.  I have Visual Studio. It updated itself.  I have selected not to update but to notify me, but it updated anyway.  A Trojan Horse was with the update.  Now I don't have Visual Studio, and I would like to use Visual Studio but can't due to the Trojan Horse with the updates.  Does anyone have information?

Terrible update. So many thinks do not work anymore.

- Google Chrome (works now after reinstall)
- Autorotation lock function disappeared
- Autorotation not working (I use a Fujitsu convertable)

- Lot of unnecessary apps and folders added to the Windows quick start menu (looks like everything installed is showing up there now (even folders),..
- maybe many more issues...

Need urgent answers from Microsoft.

Thanks!

What the heck happened with Windows.  There was an update  last week that wiped out all the customization on the taskbar and desktop.  It also changed the desktop image and wipeout history in MS Office.  I spent an hour re-establishing all these thing, but now the update that happened last night did it again.  What the f*** is going on with windows.  If this keeps happenning, I am going to have to buy an Apple computer.  These forced updates are horrific!!  Is there a way I can restore back to before these updates?

@geekdom

First I as a user, forced to pay now a not too small annual fee to Microsoft for its Win365 I am expecting proper support immediate reaction from Microsoft for this fee!

Secondly, I am not one of these computer freaks, who are constantly messing around in the settings or even registry to find "do it yourself solutions". I am simply a user, following update recommendations and instructions so please explain first with proper words for a user (what means patch you are installing???) what you want to know. I am not an IT guy!

Thirdly: If Microsoft wants to solve the issue quickly then I would expect a remote support in which I give Microsoft access to check and resolve the problems which the update created. Where do I get someone to connect to my laptop?

Further info below

  • Microsoft version and build
  • Home or Pro Pro
  • 32 bit or 64 bit 64
  • Patch you are installing Function update Windows 10, Version 2OH2
  • Reported error messages - see above. Please read my post!

The following update will not updates my home computer

2020-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4586786)

2020-11 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64 (KB4580980)

The first attempt I launched at 9:00 AM and left to run  until 4:00 PM only to discover that it was 0% completed.

I reset the system, which rolled back any changes and got prompted to install again yesterday. I launched the update at 9:00 AM again and when I checked my computer in the afternoon it was 30%, so I decided to leave it until I returned home from work 13 hours later and no change, still at 30%.

Once again, reset after that second failed attempt and 24 hours of watching the circle spinning. Again I'm being prompted that the update will proceed to install when I'm not using my system.

How do I stop this endless waste of time and or get the update to actually install?

I see you are still quite busy HELPING everyone!  Thanks for that!  This is a good time to re-post the driver update page I think.

I had to call my manufacturer to get the proper download. It was hidden very well on their site.  I downloaded it and have it saved,  but I have not run it as yet since I've been putting off getting the windows update (again.)

You say Re-read previous October 2020 updates.... all 38 pages???  This is getting way past ridiculous!! The more I read of everyone's problems, the sicker I get.

I've always admitted I'm no computer pro... far from it, just a user who expects MOST things to work properly as in the PAST.  In reading through posts, my eyes glaze over and my head spins.

I'm going out today to buy a blank flash drive to save an ISO file - I'm barely understanding that!!!!  Once I have the ISO file it's more jumping through hoops to understand how that works to get it correctly installed on the computer. It's NOT just a plug and play!   I did a youtube video search on how to perform that function-- I looked at one and it totally confuses me.

Then, WE have to figure out how to use the Windows 10 Media Creation tool, try to use/understand Rufus, search too many youtube videos for help, download new drivers, figure out what KB file(s) we need and which ones may be causing the problems, run malware programs, and on and on and on!  I  keep putting off the update after reading all of the mayhem that ensues after installing.  I already had to roll back once after I updated and it hosed my computer.  I still have several issues-- but nothing compared to many of the major problems listed here.  I know I will have to get the update soon and I dread it!  Right now I have Windows 10 HOME... version 1909.  I am thinking of getting the update but am totally confused as to WHERE TO BEGIN.  There seems to be a sequence to things that I don't comprehend.  That would be a good tutorial (for me anyway.)

Thanks again mrdbeta for all your hard work in answering questions and to others who post answers to help people.  I know once I update, I'll be here in line asking for help if I'm able to use my computer!

I know I'm not offering any solutions here, just venting my frustration at this total NONSENSE. This MS screw-up is costing people, time, money and their sanity!   The end... for now!    Out to get that flash drive.  Good Luck Everyone!!
