Error 0xC1900101 - 0x40017 while installing Windows 10

Ok so I was installing Windows 10 Pro x64 smoothly and I got to the point where it was installing drivers and new features but when it got to a 100% and the overall progress I think to 77% my PC restrted for the third time but this time it started giving me "Preparing automatic repair" and "Diagnosing your PC". Then it let's me to choose whether I want to restart my PC or look at the Advanced options. I was able to rollback to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 but before showing my desktop after the rollback it said that error 0xC1900101 - 0x40017 occured during the second boot. I even tried installing 2 more times still the same error. Is there any way that I could fix this?

UPDATE: I installed new drivers for everything using Geforce experience and Driver easy. Also I turned off my COMODO antivirus before installing W10. Still didn't help :(

Still no replies :(

@Zablas - I seem to be encountering the same issues as you. I've posted in http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/installation-failed-in-the-secondboot-phase-with/292945a3-596e-423d-957b-466009418d45

Doesn't seem like we're the only ones to experience this issue, and if you search for posts about people trying to upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1, the same error code has popped up before. In the past, it seems like the issue has been resolved later by Microsoft making a fix to the installation. We'll see whether it's similar to previous upgrades...

  • Disable (preferrably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before attempting the upgrade.
  • Restart a few times and try again.
  • Disable General USB Devices (example - Smart Card Reader).
  • If you are using a SCSI hard disk, make sure you have drivers available for your storage device on a thumdrive and it is connected. During Windows 10 setup, click the Custom Advanced Option and use the Load Driver command to load the appropriate driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and setup still fails, consider switching to a IDE based hard disk.
  • Do a clean boot and try again.
  • If you are upgrading using the .ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during setup, if you are connected by LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi, disable both and attempt setup again.
  • If you are updating through Windows Update, when the download reaches 100% disconnect from the Internet LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi and proceed with the installation.
  • If that does not work, try using the .ISO file to upgrade if possible.
  • If you are connected to a domain, switch to a local account
  • If you have any external devices attached to the machine, disconnect them (example, gaming controllers, USB keys, external hard disk, printers, non-essential devices).

How to: upgrade from previous versions of Windows using Windows 10 ISO file

Click HERE to download official ISO media for Windows 10 from Microsoft.

The cause for error 0xC1900101 – 0x40017 is known to be faulty drivers.

There have been reports of a USB driver causing this error.  Until a specific USB driver can be determined as a root cause, if you receive this error, we recommend you unplug all USB devices (other than your mouse and keyboard) as a troubleshooting step and try the upgrade again.  If the upgrade is then successful, you can plug the devices back in and they should function normally.

We have identified a few drivers associated with the following hardware or software that could be causing this problem:

    If you have NVIDA Driver

    1. NVIDIA -- Video card manufacture.    Check to make sure you’ve upgraded to the latest video drivers

    2. Antivirus and security-related products. if you have any Antivirus installed for (Free) uninstall it, if not then disable the Antivirus

Note: Antivirus software helps protecting your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software and\or troubleshoot any pertinent issue, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to malware attacks.

If you have any of these programs installed, please let us know if disabling, uninstalling, or upgrading the software or drivers allowed you to install

Hope this information helps and let us know the status of the issue we will be glad to help you further.

I just got done with a long Microsoft Help Desk chat. Sadly, I'm no further towards finding a solution. Had a bit of a difficult time convincing the person I was chatting with to take a look at the setuperr.log file - that's really the key to understanding this issue (for those wondering - it's located in C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther). This should explain what's going wrong and where it's gone wrong. I'm not astute enough to be able to read it.

The support tech took a look at the file, but wasn't able to find the driver that's causing the fault (perhaps he didn't really know how to read the file either?).  In any case, the tech support team will be calling me in 24-48 hours. I'll share my updates with you all. This problem gotten attention, so hopefully we get an answer soon.

Windows 8 Pro 64bit upgrade and the C1900101-40017 and 0xC1900101-0x40017 error messages solution.

The C1900101-40017 error message...

I had the same problem as many others on this Forum so I can appreciate the frustration many people are experiencing right now. After 8 unsuccessful attempts through the recommended update routes, this being via the Windows icon in the System Tray and Windows Update all I got back in return was the C1900101-40017 error. I was about to give in and wait for Microsoft to release driver updates based on peoples failed attempts to resolve the known issues...

The 0xC1900101-0x40017 error message...

I then tried going to the Download Tool Now 32-bit or 64-bit version, found by visiting....

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

When taking this route to upgrade AND keeping all existing files intact this also failed and gave me a slightly different error message... 0xC1900101-0x40017.

Both of these routes resulted in reaching 100% drivers installation but never got beyond 75% total. Despite uninstalling and updating various drivers and software including turning off all security software and updating graphics card drivers in never worked.

THE SOLUTION

My patience was finally rewarded by going back to the following link on the Microsoft website again... https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

This time I decided to upgrade WITHOUT keeping any previous files all folders. As I had already imaged/backed up my computer I had nothing to lose and it finally worked.  Remember to update all drivers afterward and install all windows updates.

OUTLOOK 2013 and Blueyonder (Cannot send emails problem)

'Right click' on the Windows icon bottom left of screen then select Command Prompt (Admin) then enter the following text and press enter, doing this will resolve the problem...  sfc /scannow

Good Luck!
