Xbox App Update Issue on Windows 10

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing an issue with the Xbox app on my Windows 10 PC. Whenever I start the app, it prompts me to update. After completing the update, the app closes and reopens, only to show the update notification again. This cycle repeats continuously. If I choose not to update, I receive a notification every time I open the app.

I have tried several troubleshooting steps, including:

  • Checking for Windows updates and ensuring my system is up to date.

  • Resetting and repairing the Xbox app.

  • Clearing the Microsoft Store cache.

  • Reinstalling the Xbox app via PowerShell.

  • Using the Gaming Services Repair Tool.

Despite these efforts, the issue persists. Notably, this problem only occurs on one user account on my PC; the Xbox app works fine on another user account.

Could anybody please assist me in resolving this issue? Any guidance or additional troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Rishi Naga Sai Josyula

Dear Paul,

I hope this message finds you well. Thank you for your previous suggestions regarding the issue with app updates. After following the steps you provided, I am still encountering the same issue. I ran the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter, and I received the following result (screenshot attached):

  • Unresponsive or crashing apps: Not fixed

  • Temporary Internet files location has changed: Fixed

I'm not sure if the issue with "Unresponsive or crashing apps" is directly related to the app update problem, but I wanted to mention it just in case.

Here’s what I’ve done based on your advice:

  1. Confirmed that Windows 10 is fully updated.

  2. Ran the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter (result attached).

  3. Repaired and reset the Xbox app.

  4. Verified date and time settings.

  5. Restarted my PC.

Despite these actions, the issue remains unresolved. Could you please advise on any additional steps or insights you may have?

Thank you for your assistance, and I appreciate your kind words. Looking forward to your guidance.

Best regards,

Rishi Naga Sai Josyula

Since on your other devices the app works just fine that means that the issue is with the PC itself.

Let us try these steps this time.

To open network ports on your PC, you'll need to adjust your firewall settings. Here's a step-by-step guide for Windows:

1. Open Windows Defender Firewall: Press the Windows key, type "Windows Defender Firewall," and select it from the search results.

2.Advanced Settings: Click on Advanced settings in the left-hand menu.

3.Inbound Rules: In the Advanced settings window, select Inbound Rules in the left pane

4. New Rule: Click on New Rule in the right pane.

5. Port: Select Port and click Next.

6.TCP or UDP: Choose TCP or UDP depending on the requirements of the application you're using, then click Next.

6. Specific Ports: Enter the port number(s) you want to open, then click Next.
7. Allow the Connection: Make sure Allow the connection is checked, then click Next.
8. Name the Rule: Give your rule a name and click Finish.

NOTE: You may also need to open ports on your router if the application requires external access.

Once done with these steps please let me know. Thank you very much.
