This is a public forum, staffed by other users like you, so we can't access your account or do anything on the server side. Not that it would make a difference if we could - unfortunately, when the accounts are deleted, they cannot be recovered.

As of this spring, once an address is deleted it cannot be reused. Ever.

I have been pushing for Microsoft to provide a recovery option - most of the time, this situation is the same as yours - the kid deletes the parents address from the account they share.

There solution was to add this dialog:

I added this uservoice suggestion - not that i think it will do any good. :(

Are you serious? I have 2 factor authentication  my account so got the email to my other email address specifying the primary address had changed. Surely at this point  there should be a revert to old address.  This is luducrous behaviour.  20 years of contacts everything etc ...

Sadly, yes. It's an awful situation and I remind my Microsoft contacts of this frequently. It's a royal mess.  :(

I was lucky for some reason signing into Microsoft restored it for me.
Speaking from experience I hope it helps!

If he has just changed the primary address, it wouldn't be a problem - it would still on the account but if he deleted the address, it cannot be restored. You can still get into the mailbox to get your contacts and mail - log in using his address or xbox username.

If you send mail to the address, does it bounce?

Sadly Sam I tried the above. My old address is not recognised although the email address is listed in the contact info. I tried to add it back in but it says it's a restricted domain if I try to add as an additional  account. The message to my secondary gmail lists that your primary account changed but if I go to try and re open I get this email address is not recognised.  I also tried the recover account help to no avail. This is a pure disaster

Hi diane yes email bounces. However on the contact info of the account it lists my hotmail it just won't for some reason allow me add it back in. I get  error re restricted domain. I cant fathom the point of 2 factor now at all. It's supposed to be a security measure but following both text message and email to secondary account has not worked. Major security flaw!

it's on the security settings (top screenshot) but not on the aliases list? it should have been removed from both if it was deleted.  That email to it bounces, points to it being deleted - removing it as primary would not bounce mail.
