Why is it taking Microsoft so long to correct the Text Boundaries issue in WORD 2013 when users are clearly unhappy with this feature?

I also rely on text boundaries. The strange lines I had to put up with in WORD 2013 was too much of a distraction to make this a workable program for word processing so I have reverted back.

This strange presentation of Text Boundaries is clearly problematic for most users. All comments are negative in all forums I've read. No positive comments.

Why is it taking Microsoft so long to correct the Text Boundaries issue in WORD 2013 when users are clearly unhappy with this feature?

The Office team has explained that nothing will be done to fix text boundaries in Word 2013. The new, unusable appearance is a result of the new layout engine. Apparently, text boundaries were never meant to be used the way many of us did. This has been discussed repeatedly in this forum. For example, see http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-word/why-text-boundaries-changed-in-2013/5c2d9555-3406-44a9-9b46-c4e9230f6cb6.

I guess Microsoft Word 2013 just isn't the program for me or the many others that find the new presentation of text boundaries too distracting to work around.

I was under the impression that Microsoft worked towards addressing customer needs to make their product better by interfacing with users rather than making changes because they believe we all used a feature in a way they did not intend.

Text boundaries are useless in Word 2013; I agree completely. Saving in *.doc format is the only way to display the older, useful text boundaries in the current version of Word. :-(

Edit: You can use a line of VBA code to access the compatibility/layout options and then set compatibility to Word 2010 (which will restore text boundaries and still keep the document in *.docx format). See http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-word/how-to-display-margins-in-word-2013/50b69ab3-f9bd-47ff-81bb-dad1cbe8ea51 (Charles links to this thread in his reply below).

You could try posting a suggestion in the feedback form at http://mymfe.microsoft.com/Office/feedback.aspx?formID=375 and/or https://feedback.office.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scrx=1. (Note that the forms are intended for Word 2007 and 2010; I haven't been able to find anything similar for Office 2013.)

Edit: There is now a form that lets you make suggestions for Office 365; go to http://support2.microsoft.com/common/survey.aspx?scid=sw;en-us;2222&altStyle=MFE&renderOption=OverrideDefault&showpage=1&fr=1&nofrbrand=1.

The Microsoft Community Team keeps emailing me asking me to answer the previous post.

I think I have made my issue (WORD Boundaries) clear and it is also clear that it is an issue for many WORD users.

I see no reason to continue to post if Microsoft isn't listening, believing their development strategy trumps their customer-user needs.

It's the updated notification system that sends automatic reminders on "unfinished" threads. Of course, you can click the Stop emails link if you don't want any further notifications on activities in this particular thread...

Have you considered posting a suggestion in the feedback form I linked to?

Not sure why you have that impression. Perhaps with some applications (Excel maybe), but it has never seemed that way to me. Word in particular has had issues going back years and years that Microsoft ignored.

In other words, the idiots on the team are telling us to go frack ourselves and doing their best to drive us from Microsoft products.

They've already succeeded with me for everything but Windows and Word. As soon as somebody--anybody--comes up with a decent macro language for another word processor, I'll be gone from Office and maybe have me a look around Linux as well.

It isn't going to be corrected. MS does not see it as a problem. Stefan Blom provided a document-specific workaround in this thread on March 4, 2015. I've posted a Word 2013 template with this attribute set in the Templates and Documents section of my Downloads page. Documents created in Word 2013 using that template will display the full-page margins text boundaries. It has a read-me document that links back to the thread.

Volunteering to "pay forward" the help I've received in the Microsoft user community.
