not able to open pdf through Microsoft word in Document Library.

My pdf files are posted in the Document Library files and I was able to access the pdf through Word. Word's ability to save a document as a .PDF file is a bit of a one way trip. The ability to Save As PDF is similar to using one of the PDF Printers where you can print from any program using a special driver that creates a PDF file rather than a piece of paper. You can create the file, but you cannot go back to view or edit the PDF product.

At a minimum, you will need a .PDF reader like Adobe or Foxit to view PDF files. These are available completely free of charge for download, installation and use.

Remember to turn off any options to download/install silly add-ons like toolbars!

I can attach a pdf after typing it in Word  by going to the Document Library.  I can then open the attached pdf file as well.  I used to to be able to go Word and then to Document Library and with "all files" in Words able to open the pdf.  Now I notice that I can only view it.  If I can view it why can I not open it?

Word 2007 has never has the ability to open a PDF in any sense of readability. Never has, and very likely never will. Please see my original reply above for instructions about locating a free PDF reader to install on your computer.

Word 2013 can open PDF files for editing.
