I left a blue collar career in the late 80's to start a CAD business. AutoCAD led to Lisp, Lisp led to databases and programming, home offices led to small business networks and designing ERP SQL systems. I don't have much software in the public domain, but if you played Scrabble on the Excalibur BBS system in the 90's, you have me to either curse or thank <g>. Semi-retired now, I enjoy staying active in the Microsoft Answers community. It has been a long road since the 32Mb HDD partition limit. What phrase strikes terror into my heart? "I didn't know what it was, so I clicked on it."
