Windows Live Mail sent folder not showing recipient

Recently, while using Windows Live Mail on my Windows 7 computer, I noticed when I sent out an email, my name is popping up in the sent column instead of the recipient.  This only started this week and not sure why all of a sudden this is happening.  Also noticed under the "Account" column, it has stopped showing the Hotmail("myname") and is blank now.  Any idea how to correct this?

In the sent folder, right-click on the title bar where it says: From, subject, date.  Choose Columns

There you can choose what columns you want to appear and in what order.

You can also change the width of the column, by pointing at the unseen border between the headings, your pointe will change shape, drag one way or the other.

Thank you for the reply but it doesn't answer my question.  I have all those columns already showing, but in the "To" column, it used to show the recipient's name, but now shows my name and in the "Account" column, it used to show Hotmail (myname), but now it is blank.

I, too, have just encountered this problem (and I've been using WLM for a good number of years now).

If you do a Google search, you'll see that it (or something very similar to it) is not at all a "new problem." Unfortunately, none of the suggested "solutions" I've come across so far seem to clear the problem that I'm having (along with you). What I found to be particularly distressing were some of he rather inane remarks that, purportedly, came from those who indicated that they served in some sort of an official capacity at Microsoft. One even put forth the position that having the Sender's name show up in the column that--ostensibly--was designed to show to whom the message had been sent to was the "default setting" (and had been programmed into the system).

In short, this rather vexing problem has been around long enough for Microsoft for Microsoft to have taken note of and to have common up with a remedy!

Looking at a long list of messages in your "Sent" folder, and then trying to recall to whom each was sent is, at the very least, very frustrating!

Is there any update on this issue?  Knowledge base article 3093594 lists that there are known synchronization issues with a December 17, 2015 update to Windows Live Mail that Microsoft is "investigating"; however, no updates have yet been posted to that article as promised.

To corroborate what the others in this thread have stated, the "To" column is not showing the email recipient (like it should) and is instead displaying my own name.  Thus, in the "Sent" folder, it appears I only send email to myself.  (And no, the "From" and "To" columns aren't switched, because the "From" column also still shows my name.)

This problem started with the aforementioned December 17, 2015 update.  Messages downloaded prior to this date display the "To" column correctly, but if setting up a new synchronization endpoint with Windows Live Mail, all the messages get downloaded with "To" column displaying incorrectly.

When the "To" column show the "From" name instead of who the email was actually sent to, that is clearly an issue with Windows Live Mail (and not an end-user configuration issue, as suggested in an earlier reply).

Woody Leonhard says Microsoft is phasing Windows Live Mail out.  It wants only the flawed mail app in Windows 10 and only Windows 10 installed.  Microsoft is clearly so focused on Windows 10 that much is being left in the dust in a mess.  My advice, stick to WLM 2011 because Microsoft says they do not support it any longer and that is the good news because they are unlikely to mess it up.

Is there a way to uninstall 2012 and install 2011 without messing up my emails?

Replace the 2012 version with the 2011 one which works better anyway.

Microsoft says it does not support 2011.  Not to worry, it never did anyway.

You can still get it here: http://filehippo.com/download_windows_live_mail/

It is easy to do.

  1. Download 2011
  2. Uninstall 2012
  3. Install 2011

Nothing is affected, but you can now do groups.

I must add that I have not done this before with a messed up 2012.  I would expect it to work.

> Microsoft says it does not support 2011

Yes, we received the following email:

Dear user,
In a few weeks, we will be making some changes to our email services that might impact your @outlook.com, @hotmail, @live, or @msn email account. Those changes will prevent your email from being delivered to the Windows Live Mail 2012 application you use.
In order to continue using Windows Live Mail 2012 to send and receive email for your account, you need to install the latest update published here.
If you use Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, we recommend that you switch to the built in Mail app in Windows to stay connected and get the latest feature updates on Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.
Windows Live Essentials 2009 and 2011 are not supported anymore, and you will need to update to Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10 and use the Mail app, or use www.outlook.com. To learn more about the Mail app, please click here.
We also recommend all Windows Live Mail users on Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 to upgrade to Windows 10 and use the built in Mail application to stay connected and get the latest feature updates.
We suggest saving this email so you can refer to it later.
Thanks for your understanding and continued use.
Sincerely,
The Outlook team

Unfortunately, that "built in Mail application" is has only a fraction of the functionality and usefulness that Windows Live Mail had....

My advice:  Do NOT use Microsoft email accounts.  Switch to your local Internet service provider which generally is far more serviceable and fair.  Then continue to use WLM 2011.  Alternatively, Gmail is very popular, but can be equally unfair and intrusive.
