How to resolve IRQ conflicts between Audio, video and network card?

original title: IRQ troubles.

Computer decided to assign video, audio, and network cards all to one IRQ. Problem is that when more than one of these is in use, performance degrades very noticeably.

Option is grayed out in Windows.
No option in BIOS.
No free slots to switch cards.
Uninstalled/reinstalled drivers to no effect.
No onboard video or audio and can't use wired network.

How can I change the IRQ?

Hi,

·         Have you made any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

Method 1: Let’s run the performance troubleshooter and check if that helps. Refer the following link to run the troubleshooter.

‘Open the Performance troubleshooter’

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Performance-troubleshooter

Method 2: Change the IRQ settings in the BIOS and check if that helps.

I would suggest you to uninstall the drivers for all the onboard devices that you can, shut down, reboot and then disable the same onboard devices that use IRQs in the BIOS. Reboot and re-enable them in the BIOS one by one to see if the IRQs change. Obviously you can't disable any devices needed for booting, but floppy disk controller, audio, USB (assuming your mouse and keyboard aren't USB) and Firewire controllers are good examples ones that can be disabled.

You may get in touch with the system manufacturer to get help for updating BIOS.

Warning: Be careful when changing BIOS settings. The BIOS interface is designed for advanced users, and it's possible to change a setting that could prevent your computer from starting correctly. Updating BIOS should only be done if necessary (to solve a compatibility problem, for example). It can be a complicated process, and if an error occurs, your computer could be rendered inoperable. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions exactly.

First found nothing, second doesn't have a way for me to disable any of those devices in the BIOS. (Last time I buy Dell...)

Hi,

Let’s  run the hardware and devices troubleshooter and check if the issue persists.

The only things it found were that an unused USB set was disabled (It runs on the same IRQ as well and I had tried disabling it to improve performance.) and that Windows update was set to not update drivers. However it doesn't any driver updates anyways.

Is there any way I can re-enable the option in Windows? It's a 30-second problem that's been plaguing me for quite some time now.

It had started working again after attempting to fix another likely unrelated problem, (Disabling most startup programs) but came back after another reboot. (In which all those programs are still disabled.)

Hi,

Method 1: I would suggest you to perform system restore to an earlier date when the computer was working fine and check if that helps. Refer the following link to perform system restore.

‘System Restore ‘

Method 2: Refer the “To have Windows automatically download recommended drivers and icons” section from the following link in order to enable Windows updates to automatically update the drivers.

Last time the computer was working fully, I had a completely different video card. System Restore hasn't helped.
As for updates, Windows Update doesn't find any, and has a nasty tendency of being out of date anyways.

New profile created, no new updates.

I suppose I'll see if EVGA will RMA the video card.
