How to perform and choose different system restore points

Lotsa bugs so I want to try System Restore.

First problem:  Turn off anti-virus.  That turned out to be a monumental headache and I'm trying to avoid it if I can.

Second:  At Restore failure suggestion was to "try a different restore point".  OK...how?

Thanks, Jake

System Restore- Original Title

Hi Jake,

Thank you for posting in Community.

We understand your concern and we will provide the assistance required to help you resolve the issue.

Before we proceed, I would like you to provide the information stated below:

1. Did you get a prompt to de-activate your anti virus?

2. If yes, what task did you perform when you got the above message?

3. Can you provide the exact error message when the system restore failed?

To make sure that you have performed System Restore accordingly, I suggest that you refer to the section Restore from a system restore point provided in the link below and re perform the task and check

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/windows-10-recovery-options

To select System Restore point, you can select from the list of available System Restore Point dates. Type system restore on the search bar and click on it. Wait a few seconds while the process initializes, then press Next on the first screen. In the new dialog which lists the available Restore Points check the option for Show more restore points. This gives you the most complete list of available Restore Points to choose from. Select one, then click Next and proceed through the rest of the process, restarting the computer upon completion.

Hope this helps

Thanks, Vanessa.  I will try to attach my first ever attempt at a screenshot.  I tried Bitdefender and what a headache that's been getting an answer as to switching off their anti-virus.

Please let me know if my screenshot means anything that concerns what you were asking of me.  I'm quite certain I followed all the steps properly but I will try using the info you sent and see if Microsoft can suggest a different restore point.  Your help is appreciated.

The screen shot I sent yesterday is the same response I got after going through your recommended steps.

I was skeptical when the oldest restore point offered was only 9 days old.  Anyway, I will try "Advanced" method and hope I don't screw things up worse.

When/if that fails, my only hope is to hear from Bitdefender with an answer on how to turn that antivirus off and then restart.  Be happy to hear your opinion of my plans.

Hi Jake,

Thank you for posting your response and for providing the above information to help us understand the issue.

As per the error code, disable the anti-virus software and perform system restore. I recommend that you perform restore by selecting the restore point which is at the earliest as you will not loose much of the documents or changes that you may have applied in the time span between the restore point and the current date.

I would also like to add that you create a backup of any recent files or folders that you have created between that period of time.

Disclaimer: Antivirus software helps protecting your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software and\or troubleshoot any pertinent issue, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to malware attacks.

Hope this helps
