How do I migrate a Windows 10 user profile to another new Windows 10 PC?

I already have a computer and laptop that I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.

I Just bought a new computer with Windows 10 Pro, and want to migrate my user profile from my existing Windows 10 Pro computer to the new computer so I have all my files and settings setup for the new machine.

It seems MS doesn't have have Windows Easy Transfer anymore for Windows 10, so how can I do this now?

A Windows 10 to Windows 10 user profile migration solution needs to be addressed not just for home users, but for corporate IT staff as well.  What if I need to backup and restore user profiles from one PC to another PC if both are running Windows 10?

Please do not answer with solutions for migrating Windows XP, 7, or 8 user profiles to Windows 10. This is strictly a Windows 10 to Windows 10 transfer/migration.

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

    1. How is your pc connected to network? Is it using Home Group or Domain network?

    2. Are you trying to transfer files or entire user profile?

We could clone the whole drive from the old computer to the new computer, or backup and move the crucial data to the new PC.

Copy all you library to a USB stick or drive and copy the Favorites folder under your account name. All other setup will have to be done manually.

Thanks.

A user Profile has very little to do with your data files, the WET tool did not transfer a Profile

Its a simple matter to copy data and settings, nothing special, or any program is required

I think the question was misunderstood.  I can copy data files over.  I want to copy settings already established for a profile so I don't have to recreate everything.  I work in IT for a Fortune 500 company and we do this all the time, so I know how it is done.  Just asking.  And I would like to avoid having to pay for a 3rd party tool for something I used to do for free.

There are alternatives to Easy Transfer - 3rd party alternatives.

Here is one that worked fine for me (Windows 10 to Windows 10 as well):

Same guys also have a more advanced product that transfers programs as well, not just profiles and files:

Hope this helps!

I just want to transfer profile settings, I don't want to pay out for 3rd party software I'm only going to use once.

I've just bought a new laptop too and was looking for exactly the same thing which I've used successfully on previous versions of Windows. It's pretty poor that MS has discontinued such a useful app - can't bear the thought of setting up all my Office profiles yet again! Grrrrr

Don't you know by now that Microsoft is famous for discontinuing the things rated most helpful by users, just because their "developers" don't like them? Amazing but true.

Another example of Microsoft developer "not understanding" the problem. This is likely why it was discontinued.

I found this:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/d4872cf1-5854-a363-2e14-2497f56f1505/windows-easy-transfer-is-not-available-in-windows-10

Which is completely nonsensical since windows 7 came with a FREE integrated utility (Windows Easy Transfer) for this. MICROSOFT! FIX YOURSELVES! And this too while you're at it!

Avoid "zinstall". they've ripped off me and several other people. They were downright heinous about it, even forging a letter from a detective sent to me, when I threatened small claims action.
