Windows 10 DPC watchdog violation

Hi there, I have had windows 10 for a few months now and it has been running fine, no issues at all. However, I had to use the Reset this PC due to an issue where I couldn't use the windows start menu or the search bar. Since reinstalling, I have been getting this DPC watchdog Error  - I have tried the usual solutions, such as symantec drivers and graphics drivers, but I'm still having no luck. I do have an SSD drive but windows 10 is installed on it - model is Plextor PX- 128M5M.

Not sure how to fix it - but it occurs at random intervals. Only seems to happen when I am playing any kind of game - so far has occurred when running minecraft and Skyrim - but it doesn't occur immediately. The computer freezes for about 30 seconds, and then bluescreens with this watchdog violation error.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated, as I have no idea what's suddenly causing the problem

Hi Ian,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

I understand the inconvenience that you are experiencing. I will definitely assist you.

To understand the issue better, I would like to know what is the make and model of the computer?

Let’s try simple troubleshooting steps and check if it helps in resolving the issue. Follow the below steps:

Step 1.

Check in Windows updates if any driver updates are available. If so, install the same along with Windows update and check if it helps.

Type “Updates” in the search bar and click on “Check for Updates” from the left pane.

Now click on “Check for Updates” button on the right pane, to receive a fresh list of updates and then install all the updates listed there.

For any issues while installing Windows Updates, you may also refer to this link:

If no driver updates are available via Windows Update, then you may install them for all the devices on the computer from the Computer Manufacturer’s website.

Step 2:

Go to the computer manufacturer’s website and search for the latest Windows 10 drivers available for all the devices on the computer and then install them by following the instructions given in the website. And let us know the statues.
