USB not recognized Windows 10 code 43

Hi all.

After i upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 i connected my Samsung Galaxy 3 to the normal USB slot to do a transfer to my phone, a USB is not recognized message appears. While on Win 7 this never happened. How can i fix this problem before reverting back to Win 7 which would be a shame because i love Win 10.

Thanks

Rob

Hi Robert,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community and welcome to Windows 10 family.

We understand that your system doesn’t recognize the USB device when connected. This usually occurs when the drivers are not updated. We will certainly help you with this. Please try the following methods.

Method 1: Hardware and devices troubleshooter. (provide steps).

Plug the device and run the hardware troubleshooter. Once this is done, restart the computer and check the status.

Follow these steps:

1. Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.
2. Type troubleshooting in the search box and then press enter.
3. Click hardware and sound and run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.
4. Follow the On screen instructions. Once this is done, restart the computer and check the status.

If issue persist, proceed with method 2.

Method 2:

1. Press Windows + X and select Device manager.

2. Locate the malfunctioning device in the list of devices, right-click the device, and then click Uninstall. When a warning message appears that you are uninstalling a device from your system, click OK. Device manager uninstalls the device.

3. Right-click your computer name in Device Manager and click Scan for hardware changes. Device manager scans your system and automatically reinstalls your device.

4. Right-click the device and click Properties. On the General tab of the device Properties dialog box, in Device status, you should see the message This device is working properly.

Method 3: If the issue still persist visit manufacturer's website and install the latest available USB controllers in compatibility mode.

Follow the steps below on how to install driver in compatibility mode:

1. Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website and save it on your local disk.
2. Right click on the setup file of the driver and select “Properties”.
3. Select “Compatibility” Tab.
4. Place a check mark next to “Run this program in Compatibility mode” and select operating system from the drop down list.
5. Let the driver install and then check the functionality

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.

Thank you

Hi guys,

The device I am trying to install is a 2TB external hard drive Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive. Model: SRD00F1.

I have tried all three methods stated above and non of them worked for me.

In particular in regards to method 3 I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers and under Windows 10 the hard drive is still not recognized.

Please note that all my data is on this hard drive which I cannot access since I installed Windows 10.

What should I do now in order to get the external hard drive recognised by Windows 10?

Thank you.
