FIXED: Possible to do recovery from system image without disk?

Hi.

I made a system image backup of my PC approxemately 2 weeks ago because my PC was to be reset due to some licence stuff at my School. The thing is that when I try to go through the wizard to restore my PC, this error pops up saying "the selected system image cannot be restored in this recovery environment."

The description says that I need to insert a system repair disk or a Windows installation disk and boot the computer from the disk, but the problem is that my PC doesn't have a CD-Rom, and even if it had, I don't have any of these disks.

My question is if it's possible to go through this process without a disk? Is it possible to have this boot file from the CD located on a seperate storage unit like a USB drive and boot from there?

My PC is an HP ProBook 4330s (300GB internal HDD and no CD-Rom), my external hard drive is a Seagate Expansion Portable Drive 500GB, the system image is approxemately 270GB.

Help is incredibly much appreciated. I'd really like to be able to get back to my old PC setup as soon as possible. Thanks :)

You can use a small 4 GB Flash drive and Make a Recovery drive which will boot the system. 

If you have a Recovery Image Partition, you can use one maybe 32 GB and copy the Image over to the Flash drive so you can reset your system, if it works.

Version differences between 8.0 and 8.1 and what you can use when, generates much confusion.

No, you do need a repair disk. Here are the instructions for making a Repair Flash Disk. A 500 MByte disk will do.

Sorry, I did not notice I had jumped into the Windows 7 section...

I thought at one time you had to have an external media to boot into for a System Image Recovery. 

But I can now confirm 8.1.1 will restore an image without additional media.  This assumes your system is set up correctly and the image was made with 8.1

I cannot say for sure about 8.0 and 8.1

I'm downloading the iso right now and hoping for the best. Thanks for the answers guys!

PS: My PC is indeed a Windows 7 32 bit if there was any doubt.

EDIT: Okay, I tried to boot the repair disk iso from a USB drive without success, so I tried to extract the files inside the iso and put them in the root of the USB drive. Neither this worked. I also tried to boot the iso from the same HDD where I have my system image backup, but that didn't work either. It just said something like "Disk I/O error. Replace the disk and then press any button". I am now completely clueless.

EDIT2: Okay, now I tried to download the full installation disk (iso) for Win7 x86, but neither this worked when it was put in both the USB drive and the external HDD. The only solution I can think of right now is an external CD-Rom drive, but are those recognizeable by the OS when it comes to boot/startup?
