Can I edit my Windows XP boot.ini file to boot Windows 7 in the dual boot menu?

Can I edit my Windows XP boot.ini file to boot Windows 7 in the dual boot menu?  If so, what file does Windows 7 use to boot?  What happened was, I had Windows 7, shrank the C:\ volume, installed Windows XP on the new volume, and now Windows XP boots automatically.  DON'T SUGGEST EASYBCD- my copy of XP has SP3, EasyBCD won't run on it.  Help?
See info here on how to fix your boot setup.

Right click Computer, select properties, go to Advanced System Settings and then select the Advanced tab.

Click Startup and Recovery and now you will have access to the options for dual booting. From here you can select the default OS to boot and also time outs for the dual boot.
