My Windows 10 taskbar will not lock since the new Creators update.

To further isolate the concern, we suggest that you perform a clean boot to disable non-Microsoft services and check if the issue persists. For steps on how to perform a clean boot, click here. After the last KB update, I can now craft a workaround.  My taskbar remains OK if I do not "Lock the Taskbar", so I am not going to mess with it anymore.  Thanks.

This issue is possibly due to a conflict with Classic Shell, a 3rd party extension for the (not so nice) start menu of Windows 8/10 ....in terms of usability. Classic shell brings back the Windows 7 look and feel, the problem with the taskbar is imminent since the latest MS update (so, please don't just start blaming teh developers - it worked quite well). Classic Shell is very succesful: free, slim, smooth and useful. MS should really think of integrating this piece of art into Windows. Let users decide which style they prefer.

I have never installed "Classic Shell" on my Dell XPS 8300 DT or my Dell XPS-15 LT, but customized the Win10 interface the same on both to my own preferences.  It may be due to another issue.

I was having this taskbar problem a few months ago. I did some searches and found something on a Windows 7 site that had to do with a McAfee problem. I had gotten the program through a special from ATT. I deleted the program and the problem ended. Now it has come up again so I tried to remember any recent apps or app updates that I had installed. It turns out that recently I had a Malwarebytes Free upgrade that I installed. Right now I am in a premium trial period which will revert to regular free in a few days. Well I deleted the program and my taskbar problem went away - I reinstalled it and the problem is back. I have sent them an email and am still waiting for a reply. I do have Win 10 Pro 1703 - 15063.674. I have no idea why programs would interfere with taskbar settings but in my case it appears that two separate ones did. Also I am wondering what else the programs may have messed with that I did not see. Hopefully this will help someone. Walt
