Windows 10 update (KB3081424) causing infinite reboot loop.

Windows 10 update (KB3081424) causing infinite reboot loop. What can I do to resolve. I have photo of registry entries at ""ProfileList", an area that some forums suggest editing will possibly resolve the issue. But no specific info on what to edit and how. Can't believe my search here at Microsoft Windows returned a No Match Found to my question!!??? Like most people I'm a newbie to W10.

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

Sorry to know that you are facing this issue.

Unplug all external devices and restart the computer to check if you are able to get to the desktop screen. If you have a laptop then ensure to plug in the power cable to the socket.

You will be able to solve some problems by running a troubleshooter that will automatically fix some common issues with Windows Update. Once this is done check if this helps.

Open the Windows Update troubleshooter by following these steps:

  • Press Windows key + X and click on Control Panel.

  • Click on Troubleshooting and click on View All.

Click on “Windows Update” troubleshooter to fix problems with Windows Update. Follow the on-screen directions to run this troubleshooter and restart the computer to check if this helps.

Keep us informed to help you further.

Following on from Microsoft’s latest (second) UPDATE to Windows10 my Lenovo, Nvidia graphics, 64 bit version laptop would not load up to a  full working version of Windows 10.

It loaded to desktop up to shortcuts but when trying to load bottom “toolbar/taskbar” fails and goes into an endless loop of trying to reload.

I've posted to the community and had a suggestion from engineer Srimadhwa B (thank you but before I completed your suggestions Windows loaded) to try “window” button +X, control panel, then use troubleshoot problems with updates etc, NON FOUND….oddly the desktop and toolbar/taskbar has now loaded and I now have a working version of Windows 10 and access to e.g.  EDGE browser. and things look stable. However I am now afraid to switch it off!!.

Question arise like should I restore to previous time before Windows 10 UPDATE or will the enforced update RELOAD and cause the same problem (if that is what caused the problem).

Nvidia is trying to offer me an updated graphics driver that is for Windows 10, should I run it?

Should I "upgrade" Windows 10 to get a version that delays installing updates?

Sorry if I've rattled on a bit but if others have the same problem and I was really worried I hope this helps you.

At present I’m working on an old laptop running a much loved old OS XP, but will try to look up this thread on the now “working” Windows 10 machine.

Looks like I spoke too soon .......anther forced restart and I'm back with a screen flashing on and off endlessly and a not working Windows 10 machine. Now what, spend hours searching for help on web sites, scarily delving into the registry, using my old machine with Windows XP (without it's MS support), wind back to what now seems like good old Windows 8.1. Just abandon this whole Window10 idea altogether? Life's too short to stay here!

19th August.

I'm really sorry if putting "my own" replies to my start up issues is "bad form" then so be it. But I've been beavering away trying to fix the problem (of not having a stable version of Windows 10 because of a flashing screen). The response from Microsoft seems to me to be deafening in its silence, they've probably got bigger fish to fry at the moment!!

I managed to grab, during the precious seconds of bootng up a stable moment, before the system started to crash (which was when notifications start telling me that iCloud cannot do the photo streaming). Then crash.

I right clicked the Windows loggo , bottom left, clicked Task Manager, New Task, chose tab Start Up, from the list and disabled iCloud services...that was not a techno political point, just to disable the last item seen before flashing screen and failure of system. As the system seemed to be fairly stable and accessable I clicked Control Panel from the menu gained from right click Windows loggo. This time clicked Find and Fix Problems, From there chose View All, From the list chose Windows Updates. Previous attempts  reported no problems found to fix. This time it reported Found and then fixed as Administrator CRYPSCRIPT (or something that looked like that).

Now it's the "law of sods" that I did two things at one quickly grabbed moment, BUT on reboot I now have a fully stable working system (least until the next update which hopefull won't crash things AGAIN). I started this post with the date because maybe by coincidence Microsoft has put the fix out there now?!!

Which ever way this sorted my issues. If this helps one more worried newbie to Windows 10 like me then good on them.
