Unable to open hyperlinks in Windows 10 Mail App

I am unable to open any links if Chrome or Firefox is set as my default browser but I am successful if Edge is the default. Any clue what might be causing this?
Hello! I am an Independent Advisor, I would love to help you out!

Go to settings > apps > default apps

Change your default web browser to edge, then set it back to what you want.

Then restart the computer and try again.

This worked for me when i tried it, thank a lot! The restart turned out to be necessary after the default app switch.

I have tried re-registration of Mail but I don't think it has worked: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/2d08e534-0038-4920-8398-c4e914882806/forum-faqhow-to-fix-builtin-apps-that-cannot-work-correctly-in-windows-10?forum=win10itprogeneral

Another thing though, when installing Office 360 shortly after installing Windows 10 I think I may have installed Outlook... but anyway I also have the Outlook app and this opens hyperlinks, although I am having trouble adding my google mail account. I don't know how to uninstall it, Outlook. Worst of all, I am not very familiar with Windows 10 so it hasn't been configured properly from the outset and I am responsible for that myself. However, I want to correct this and just doing that has been my biggest user experience hurdle by far.

Any functionality that is enhanced by internet access is hampered, its like I have shot myself in the foot. Mail can Send and Retrieve email. But I can't open useful links to browser pages on my uni site, or anyone else's in Windows 10 default Mail app.

I see Mail is set as my default email app in System, and Mail successfully adds all email accounts (my ISP, Uni, Gmail, Hotmail). But this email app now has a great deal of work-rate functionality chopped out while my ability to follow embedded hyperlinks is fubar. And Mail has no account management, or application configuration settings in the drop down menu to correct this within the app setup.

This, however, is not all. Hyperlinks are not working in Settings/Control Panel, Apps side menu, Notifications popup, nor Help. Worse, I can't even open Help.

Inability to open hyperlinks in Windows 10 Mail app may be a symptom of a wider compatibility clash, with a competing app that has aggressive system handle handshakes/deadlocks, and snarls symbolic links synch. with Cloud config backup/microsoft Store (pick one).

I don't know everything, maybe enough but not everything.
