Quick Access vs Favourites

As a very recent upgrader to Windows 10 I am extremely disappointed with the replacement of my Favourites section with the Quick Access.

Previously, I could add various folders to my favourites, rename the link to distinguish between folders that have the same final folder name and swiftly get to all the places I need.

Now, the Quick Access section is anything but.  I can't change the name of the folders that are shown there as this changes the underlying folder name - not acceptable on out network as I'm not the only one that uses it.

For example, I know have 3 Quick Access links that all say 2015-16 and no way of distinguishing between them without selecting each one in turn.  Sadly, this is a very serious backward step as I used that functionality ALL the time.

I presume someone in the development team actually tried this before issuing the new version - or maybe I'm assuming a little too much.

Anyone have a solution ?

There were some posts/discussions about this.. but there is no workaround or solution, unfortunately.

Thanks Ramesh

Sadly, it seems that the Microsoft rush to change something to show that progress is being made has, in fact, been extremely regressive.

I've only had it for 3 days and already I can't wait to revert to 7.

One of the IT team has said that 'you'll get used to it' by why the **** should I get used to working slower.

Sounds like we're going back to the old days when some bright spark will write a piece of code to replicate the system that worked rather than the one that doesn't.

Hi PCMK,

Although there are still lot of issues that MS needs to resolve... such as Start/Taskbar not working all of a sudden.. and Settings, metro/modern apps failing to load, and requiring a re-register of app packages using PowerShell.. despite all this i'm still enjoying Windows 10. Yes.. performance wise W7 is rock solid...and I still love it.

I found if you right-click on the name you want to change in Quick Access and then select properties, you can change it in the General tab.

TSmithME - I think you may find that doing what you say changes the name of the underlying folder, not just the name in Quick Access ... and that's the problem - I don't want to change the name of the underlying folder

You are absolutely correct PCMK.  I learned this the hard way with a production failure.
