File Explorer search Current folder option doesn't work

Good morning,

I am having a problem with my Windows 10 file explorer searches.  When I search for an item, it brings back results in for the current folder and all subfolders as it should.  When I click on "Current folder" in the search tools, however, it does nothing.  I still see all results from all subfolders.

I believe this problem started after installing NVIDIA GeForce Experience and the latest NVIDIA driver.  I tried to do a system restore, but it seems I dont have any restore points.  That is another problem I will have to fix.

Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

  • What is the Windows 10 Version and Build installed? (Type winver in Windows search/Run command)

Method 2: If the issue persists, then we would suggest you to refer these steps to restore it to default.

  1. Open File Explorer and click on View tab from the top.
  2. Click the arrow below Options and select Change folder and search options.
  3. Under General tab, click on Restore Defaults.
  4. Click Ok and relaunch File Explorer.

Hi Aditya,

Thanks for your quick response.  In response to your questions:

  • I am using Windows 10 Version 1909 Build 18363.778
  • What i meant in my original inquiry is in in the attached images.  the original search includes all subfolders.

When i click on Current folder

          ,

it should narrow down the search to only files in the current directory and not any subfolders.  However, it still includes all

          results in all subfolders.

If this were working correctly, only one folder would be shown in the search and not all of the files in that folder.  (I hope this

          makes sense)

  • Lastly, I have restarted my computer multiple times to no avail.

I have also just tried the two methods you suggested.  Sadly, they did not work.

Thanks again for responding so quickly.  I look forward to any help you can give me.

Thanks

Lance Windsor

Hi Aditya,

Thanks for continuing to work on this with me.

The problem with the current folder button not working happens with all drives and all folders.  This includes local drives, network drives, and all subfolders.

Regardless of this, I tried the two methods you mentioned in your last reply and neither helped.

Thanks

Lance

Hi Lance,

Thank you for your response.

We are researching on this issue and we would like you to create a new user administrator account on the PC for troubleshooting purpose, later you can remove/delete the account. Then create some test files and folders in different default locations (Ex: Desktop, Downloads, Documents) and check.

Please refer this article to create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10, then check and let us know the status.

Hi Aditya,

I created the new user administrator account on the PC, logged in to that account and created several strings of folders and subfolders to search as well as searching existing folders and subfolders.  The results were the same.  The 'Current folder' doesn't work.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Lance
