Error Code 0xc004c003 - Clean Install after Upgrade - Let's Unite

 Obviously I had no way of knowing that your RAW (or ruined) partition is intentional so because this is a consumer forums I offered to help you with it just as I have hundreds of times before when it has never been intentional.

 After elevating the activation issue to the windows 10 team twice last week via MVP communications channel, I heard from them Monday that they are working on it. They asked me to circulate posts here by Charles MSFT explaining activation changes and intent.

I have just had a interesting Chat with a MS online help in regard to this problem , his explanation is a bit off putting .

His explanation to my lack of Activation is due to the fact that i did a clean install via the media creation tool , and my original win 7 disc is a OEM , i have to contact the store where i purchased it from , and they will give me a free new win 10 key ????

is this correct

Nope, that is not true - inform MS, that Support member is pushing you on wrong way.

Why you can get free Windows 10 key, if you are eligible to get Windows for free?

The truth is, that you only need to make clean installation *AFTER* successfully

installed upgrade on your existing Windows and verified properly activation of it :)

Yup Krupers exactly what i thought , he was giving me wrong information .

and when he asked who was my manufacturer HP / Asus/ or who ever when i told him i self build he seamed to be at a loss .

I was activated in insider builds , untill the 29th when RTM updated , then i did a fresh install to become a Blocked Key :(

1. Upgrade from Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 to Windows 10. 
2. Wait until activation occurs on the Windows 10 PC.
3. Perform a clean Windows 10 install. 
4. Enjoy your new copy of Windows 10 with a blocked product id and Error code: 0xC004C003.

I think we have people experiencing the steps below or activation occurs without issue. If you are the later you're probably not reading this forum and can't help us identify why/if your clean install worked and activated after your upgrade. I have a scheduled call back with MS support tomorrow, but suspect they will want me to install windows 8 and upgrade back to windows 10. All three of the support people I've talked to at this point seem to think clean installs have "technical issues" and should not be performed at this time. Seriously, I had two of them ask "But why would you want a clean install in the first place? Didn't the upgrade work?"

I am still trying to figure out... with all the activation issues going on with just the upgrade ,why do people insist on clean installing right after you just upgraded (not referring to the few people that have had technical issues  ie: driver problems, etc).  IF (and at this point it is still a big IF) I ever get Windows 10  activated, I will wait a really long time to make sure that everyone and their grandmother has finished with the upgrade and all the "kinks" have been worked out of this new (highly ridiculous) way of activation before I even think about doing a clean install, but that is just me. Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you HAVE to do it right away, anyway (especially since the process is obviously flawed right now)

Quite a lot of people seem to have had driver incompatibilities or other issues, first of all.

I, on the other hard, had experienced no activation issues on the three machines I had upgraded, and it was time for a clean install on one of them, so I did it. I didn't know that there were major issues with that process yet.

After being on the insider program for several months with no issues when MS released the RTM several forum members asked about a Clean install , and were told by MS agents that a Clean install would be no problem via the MS media creation tool as our win 10 activation was Via our hardware ! not a key , and our Ms accounts were linked to our Win10 activation .

So after win10 was released to clear the HD from several months of updates , A clean install is good .

Now the 3 agents you talked to obviously are talking as of recent errors , which were not around during the Previews

but after the 29th they have realized ooops we have "  technical issues "  which were not apparent earlier .

Originally we were told to wait 24-48 hours and it would auto activate , 12 days later and we still are waiting !!

Have you run the Program Compatibility assistant?  Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows - Windows Help

Be sure to also open Windows Update to Check for Updates, expedite any that might be slow or queued for reboot.  This is how WIndows 10 delivers drivers and other important patches.

Then check in Device Manager for any missing or drivers in error with a !.  Try the latest from the PC or Device's Support Downloads webpage for Windows 8.1 if 10 is not yet available.
