Windows could not search for new updates. Error Code 8007370B

I've been trying for months to resolve this issue and I finally cracked down looking for help here. I tried Fix-it, but it didn't work. I also tried Windows anytime Upgrade and no luck there either.

Although I have it set up for automatic updates, I came to the realization that no updates ever happened since I owned the laptop (Toshiba Satellite L455), which came pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Every time I attempt to update Windows, I get the following error message...

Windows could not search for new updates

An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer.

Error(s) found:

Code 8007370B  Windows encountered an unknown error

Most recent check for updates: Never

Updates were installed: Never

You receive updates: For Windows and other products from Microsoft Update

I really don't know what else I can do besides reinstalling Windows (I don't have a disc though, since the laptop came reinstalled with it). Help?

Answer

Check with Toshiba support website.

Manufacturers typically have a hidden partition on the HDD which can be used to do a factory restore. That procedure will mean that the laptop will be set back to day 1 as it came out of factory.

IF you do not have backups of all your files/documents you will lose them.

Do backup your files to offline media (external drive, USB-flash, DVD/CD).

You would also lose the setup programs for all your apps, including your antivirus.

For the sequence and how to do a factory restore, check with your pc manufacturer's support.

Check with Toshiba if they can provide you the Windows7 DVD.

Check with Toshiba if they have a procedure for a repair install of Windows 7.
