Microsoft To-Do - Duplicate Recurring Tasks

All my recurring tasks in the To-Do app are being duplicated. So when I mark a recurring task complete, an exact copy of that occurrence appears on the list with the same due date and sub tasks, but the task and all sub tasks are marked incomplete. This means that I have to check every sub task and main task complete twice for every recurring task I have. Before marking the next occurrence complete, only one instance of that recurring task appears on the list.

I tried deleting all my recurring tasks (including all previously completed occurrences) and creating the recurring tasks again from scratch, but I am still encountering the same problem.

How do I get rid of the duplicate occurrences permanently and prevent them from being created again?

I have the same problem.  Any updates on this?  If not, I can't use it.  I've been using repeating tasks for years with other task management apps and may have to switch back.

I also have the same problem. It drives me crazy. I check off a task and it pops back up in my list as being due today. I check it off again and it finally pops up but with the due date set for the next recurrence. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong with how I set up the recurring tasks or if it's a bug. It's been doing this for months.

I reached out to Microsoft To Do Support on November 25th, 2019 and received the following response on November 26th, 2019:

Hi Devin Walz,

Thank you for letting us know about this. Our apologies for the trouble.

We're aware of this issue and are working on a fix. A lot of other users also reported that recurring tasks are creating duplicate entries. We hope to get the issue resolved as soon as possible. We appreciate your bearing with us in the meantime.

I reached out to Microsoft To Do Support on January 8th, 2020 and received the following response on January 9th, 2020:

Hi Devin,

Thank you for reaching out to us once again.
This issue has been fixed with latest app update which we released on last Tuesday. Please update your app to the latest version and let us know if issue persist. Thanks!

I updated all the devices with which I use the Microsoft To Do app and tested them for a few days. I was still experiencing the same problem intermittently along with occasionally experiencing a problem where the next occurrence of a recurring task was not created.

I reached out to Microsoft To Do Support on January 13th, 2020 and received the following response on January 15th, 2020:

Hi Devin Walz,

Thank you for letting us know about this. Our apologies for the trouble.

I just filed a ticket with our engineers and they're investigating the issue. We hope to fix it as soon as possible. We appreciate you bearing with us in the meantime.

I am still experiencing the duplicate occurrence problem intermittently and it seems to happen only with recurring tasks I previously created. Whenever I create a new recurring task, marking the current occurrence complete does not create a duplicate occurrence and the next occurrence is created correctly. I'm going to try recreating my recurring tasks from scratch and see if that fixes the problem.

I'm experiencing the same problem as of Feb 5 using the app on multiple platforms (Win 10, iOS) on the latest versions of the app.  It didn't used to be this way.  It started a few months ago and is really annoying.  I'm surprised it is taking this long to fix.

My tasks only duplicate if I complete them after 9AM EST. Looking forward to a fix.
