MDM enrollment or simple ActiveSync

Hi,

got a bunch of questions:

1. can one choose to use MDM or the old regular activesync for the mobile devices? we just want to force a 4 digit pincode for access to email.

2. if we would like to to force pincode & encryption if one use OneDrive is it MDM we sould aim for?

3. can they be used together? MDM/activesync? useless? MDM hits harder?

4. can one remove a MDM profle and fall back to activesync?

5. pros/cons between them? activesync got basic features for securing the device using mail, calendar, Contacts. (pin, encryption, block blutetooth etc...)

Hi Frigge,

Below are the answers to your questions:

1. Yes. Admins can choose to set up MDM (Mobile Device Management) in the Office 365 portal or set up Exchange ActiveSync in EAC (Exchange admin center) for user accounts.

2. Yes. You need to set up MDM in this situation.

3. Regarding this question, we suggest you post in the Intune forum for dedicated support. Here is the forum link:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/home?category=microsoftintune&forum=microsoftintuneprod%2Cmicrosoftintuneprod&sort=relevancedesc&brandIgnore=True

4. Yes.

5. MDM policies can manage access to both your organization’s Office 365 email and documents for supported mobile devices and apps while ActiveSync policies can only manage Exchange services (email, calendar, contacts and tasks). If a device is lost or stolen, MDM can manually wipe the device remotely but ActiveSync needs to set up policies to wipe the device. You can make a choice based on your requirement.

Larry
