Windows 8 'Metro' Apps not working....

I have installed windows 8 on my laptop and all was working fine, but now very few, if any metro apps will work, for instance calendar and mail don't load, nor apps like skype. Screen resolution is 1366 x 768. And I have kapersky internet security 2013 installed. Can anyone help? Other solutions seem to be to do with screen resolution and antivirus but my resolution should be fine and I have tried with Kapersky disabled and still doesn't work...

Honestly I have read a lot about this. There are so many posts that MS needs to make some sort of announcement. There are a lot of theories as to what is causing the issue and most of them seen to be centered around Anti-Virus, Firewalls and such. I have read that Windows 8 has beefed up it's security and anti-virus protection with Windows Defender. I had the same issues as everyone else. My metro apps would not work. Click them, you get a splash screen, and then it appears to be loading with the spinning dots in a circle and that is all I could get. I worked on it for 2 days and with extreme frustration. I took some advice of some of the other people having the same issue and I completely uninstalled Mcafee Security Suite, re-booted the computer and low and behold, that solved "my" issue. As for others I can not say. I never once refreshed or recycled it. I wish I had just done this a couple of days ago! I hope you make the correct decision for yourself. I now have no 3rd party anti-virus anything on my system. I am a cautious surfer when it comes to the internet and I stay away from any type of file sharing sites. I hope this does not come back and bite me. Good luck!
