Hi Ganeshsiva,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

From your description, it seems that you want to know how to format D drive which has Windows XP operating system.

I will be glad to assist you. This issue could be caused because Windows XP operating system is already installed in the drive and cannot be formatted directly and should be logged in as an Administrator      .

Follow the steps provided below and update us on the status of the issue.

I would suggest you to back up all the date present in the D drive and try to format the drive.

Create and format a hard disk partition:

Note: Formatting a volume will destroy any data on the partition. Be sure to back up any data you want to save before you begin.

For any Windows related issues please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to help.
