How to stop Windows 10 update? Getting error: 0x80240020

Original title: Opting out of windows 10

How do I get rid of the  0x80240020: "Windows failed to install the following update" error. I do not want to upgrade to Windows 10 and have hidden KB3035583  that installs the Get Windows 10 app, as per instructions to opt out. This error still pops up every day. FYI, I rolled Win. 10 back to 8.1 on another computer and it corrupted several files in the registry. The reason I opted out is Windows 10 is not as vision impaired friendly as 8.1.
