How do I save a contacts address from Mail

When in Mail I cannot find anyway to save the email address of a new contact  and it does not appear in FAQs.  Am I being thick?

Hello Trevor,

Contacts are stored in the People app. If you add contacts to People or sync contacts with your Microsoft or other accounts you will be able to select the contacts when composing a new message in the Mail app.

No this does not answer my issue.  What I am trying to do is find out whether when you get an email from a new contact if there is anyway of storing their address into the People App from within Mail.  There does not seem to be anyway of doing it.  I assume the only way is to go to the original email client and save it to address book there and then re sync

Thanks

Trevor

Correct, the people app "pulls" directly from your other communication apps. So, whatever you change in those other communication apps, synch the new information and people will pull the contact and updates.

The answer is in the details!

You are correct, currently the Mail App has no method to add a contact!

I suggest you download the Windows Live 2012 suite as this includes a 'normal' email client that will allow this from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-live/essentials-other-programs.

Come on Microsoft!  You have to work on this and fix it during future updates to your mail App.  This a basic must have to be able to simply designate an email address from an email or as a Cc from an email received, and save it to your contacts or "people" in this case.

The only way I've managed to do this is very complicated but at least saves you writing it down on paper.
If you go to reply to the email that's been sent to you, on the left hand side you will see that the contact name is highlighted, if you right click, then choose edit, it will display the email address, which on a second right click, you can copy. This can then be pasted into the form on the People App.
Far too complicated if you ask me, this issue needs sorting out!

rblack,

Thank you.   This answers the question that I came to this forum for.

I am a new user of windows 8, and coming here I've learned that the email app that's provided with Windows 8 seems to be a really limited sort of application.   Very disappointing after getting used to the functionality of the old outlook program.

Seems that the answer to this is to delete the current email app and download "Live Mail".

Why Microsoft doesn't provide one email app that's fully functional and works to do simple things like saving new people to contacts is beyond me.   I thought that was the idea here, going forward, was to create software that's more integrated and simpler to use.   Instead this is more cumbersome out of the box.

(The other problem I was having that you 'solved' was simply finding this person's email address to begin with.   Their incoming email displays their name, fine and dandy, but what is their email address?  Apparently you have to do your little 'workaround' to discover it).

Just unbelievable that Mail does not allow this. Absolutely incredible. I've been tearing my hair out thinking I was stupid or something, and wasted much valuable time messing around with this thing only to find Microsoft didn't even write it into the app! Can't even find words to describe how incompetent this is.

This still does not help me.  HOW do you save a contacts address and create the new contact.
