Having a problem starting wow.dll

Hi There,
1). Since a some days ago, whenever i right mouth click any file/folder in the windows explorer, the error MSG box pop up and the MSG stated:
"There was a problem starting
 C:\users\owner\AppData\local\Temp\sywecq\sbypqnr\wow.dll
A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed."

I had run "sfc /scannow" on my PC and "did not find any integrity violations."
I believed my PC was infected by some virus. Can someone help me fix this problem ?

2). Also, I noticed other people had the wow.dll starting problem but it's in different folder/directory. What is wow.dll used for ? Is it Windows system DLL or application DLL ?

3). Another problem is when I try to cd to C:\users\owner\AppData\local\Temp\sywecq
C:\Users\The Alliance\AppData\Local\Temp>cd syrwecq
Access is denied.
I was using "Run as administrator" in this command prompt" Can someone also help me with that ?

Thanks & Regards,

Henry

Hi Henry,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Let’s follow these steps and check if that does the trick:

Step 1: You may grant permission to the “Temp” folder. Refer to these articles for more information on permissions:

What to know before applying permissions to a file or folder

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/what-to-know-before-applying-permissions-to-a-file-or-folder

How do I open a file if I get an access denied message?

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/how-do-i-open-a-file-if-i-get-an-access-denied-message

Step 2: Lets’ delete the content from “Temp” folder, you can use disk cleanup for it.

Delete files using Disk Cleanup

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Delete-files-using-Disk-Cleanup

Or else, follow these steps to clear the temp folders and check if it helps, here are the steps:

a.       Click Start, type %temp% in the search box and hit Enter.

b.      Press Ctrl key + A, that will select all the contents and delete it.

Once you clear this, follow these steps:

a.       Click Start, click on Computer.

b.      Open C drive, go to Temp folder and delete all the contents and check if it helps.

Please revert for any clarification on this or any Windows issue. We will be glad to help you.

Hi Henry,

Thank you for reaching us on Microsoft Community.

From the issue description, it looks like you are you are receiving error message saying “There was a problem starting C:\users\owner\AppData\local\Temp\sywecq\sbypqnr\wow.dll. A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed” when right-click on any file/folder in the Windows explorer.

To help you suggest steps to resolve the issue, I would appreciate if you could answer the following question:

Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

Wow.dll is a library file that is responsible for implementing main parasite functions and running its destructive payload. The wow.dll file cannot run by itself and therefore needs to be loaded with the help of some executable files. However, certain parasite reconfigures the operating system or installs wow.dll as a plugin, so that the system or certain applications automatically load it on startup.

The wow.dll file is installed and used by Wowcraft.e.

In most cases wow.dll is responsible for all the harmful actions the pest takes. Removing this file will immediately terminate the parasite or partially disable it. That is why the wow.dll file must be manually deleted. If you cannot erase it, consider using recommended spyware removers, which will get rid of wow.dll and associated parasites for you.

In some cases a presence of wow.dll does not mean that your system is infected. The file may actually belong to some fully legitimate applications and therefore must stay intact. If you are in doubt, please scan the wow.dll file using you regular spyware remover or antivirus program.

We got some troubleshooting methods in order to resolve the issue:

Method 1: I would suggest you to perform clean boot and check if the issue reoccurs.

Place the computer in a clean boot state and then check if it helps. You can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Follow the section “More information” to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot.

Method 2: I would also suggest you to scan your computer with Microsoft Safety Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free downloadable security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It works with your existing antivirus software.

http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Important: While scanning the hard drive if any bad sectors are found, the scanner tries to repair that sector, any data available on that might be lost.

Hope this information helps. For any further Windows related assistance, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help.
