Office 365 Home vs Personal

I understand less and less from Microsoft, and it could be old age.

For years we buy Office 365 Home. We have it installed on 3 devices. We have a household of 2 people, and use one account. With that account we both log in, we both use Word, Excel and occasionally both use Publisher. We are thinking of starting to use OneNote. And we share Onedrive together for 100%. We don't use their web-outlook, but we use Outlook 2016 that imports our emails from a local provider. Basically we do not need anything separate from each other.

I am reading about Office 365 Personal. It says "One solution for you across all your devices. Includes premium Office applications for PC or Mac for 1 user".

Our situation is that we only use one account, share everything 100%, including OneDrive and the 1TB is plenty. Does this mean we can get away with 365 Personal version for a lower fee?

On how many devices can you install and use the personal version?

Office 365 Personal is for use by a single person. Legally, it doesn't really have anything to do with the account. One account, one person.

Hi Jetje74,

I'm a fellow Microsoft customer and expert user here to help.

If you are using the same account to sign into Office, you can install it on unlimited devices but be can only be signed into 5 devices at the same time.

So as long as you are fine with sharing the same account between you two and using 5 or less devices at once, you will be ok.

Hi Jetje,
You can be signed into 5 devices with the same user account - as as long as you share the same onedrive, it will work.

There is a section on personal here:

RE: #1 - Short answer: "Technically" yes as long as each device signs in with the MS Account that was used to purchase the subscription given that you are sharing everything in terms of OneDrive.

Re: #2- Can be installed on any number of computers but only 5 can be logged into the account at any given time.
