How to fix Excel Pivot filters for Mac where date filers are being applied to text values?

Hello,

In the last few days, the filters on my pivot tables have stopped working like they usually do. Normally I am able to filter “By Label” and the drop down menu has operators that have “Contains”, “Does not Contain”, “Begins with”, “Ends with”, “Equals, etc. for my text data.

Now the “By Labels” filter is treating the data as a date with “After”, “Between”, “Tomorrow”, “This Week”, etc.

I have tried the following to get it work normally:

  • Copied a file that worked in the past, which started off working normally within the pivots and then had the same issue

  • Changed the cell format to “Text” vs “General”

  • Re-selected my source data via “Change my Source Data”

  • Refreshed my Data in the pivot sheet

  • Restarted Excel

  • Restarted my Mac

  • Checked for the latest Excel updates (I have the latest version of 16.84)

Please find the screenshot of the issue. It shows the leftover filter that was working a few days ago, and now Excel is only giving date filters despite the text option still actively filtering.

Is this a bug or is there something that’s changed?

Thank you.

Note: This sounds like the same issue found on this post and this post.
