Windows Recovery Fail blue screen of death Status: 0xc00000e9

Original Title: Windows Recovery Fail

My computer recently got the blue screen of death. When i tried to start it back up, it gave me the option to run Windows Recovery, or start windows normally. I chose Start Normally, but it ends up restarting before even really starting. Then it shows the same screen, so i pick Windows Recovery. But when it runs, it fails and says the following.

Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer. If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.

Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

I have no USB or anything that is external. It just randomly happened, and its a brand new computer. Please help so I can use it again!

Hi,

·         What is the make and model of the computer?

·         Were there any recent changes made on the computer prior to the issue?

This error message: An unexpected I/O error has occurred. Status: (0Xc00000e9) is a hardware error pertaining to your system’s BIOS.  Basically it is telling you that the computer is not able to reliably communicate with the hard drive. We can try a few steps and check if it works:

Method 1:

Step 1:

If you have Windows 7 DVD, I would suggest you to run the Start up Repair Tool from Windows Recovery using Windows 7 disk and check if it helps:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-are-the-system-recovery-options-in-Windows-7

Step 2:

Also run the SFC (System File checker) Scan in Windows Recovery mode.

Use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue, and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

a)      Open Command prompt from Windows Recovery Mode

b)      Type C: and press enter. On C:\ prompt type cd windows\system32\ and press enter.

c)       Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow

Method 2:

I would suggest you to rebuilt BCD. To do this, follow these steps:

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps:

a)      Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.

b)      Press a key when you are prompted.

c)       Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.

d)      Click Repair your computer.

e)      Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.

f)       In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.

g)      Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

h)       Type bootrec /RebuildBcd , and press Enter.

Also refer to the KB article provided below and check if it helps.

Thank you for help, but is there either a way to do it without the disk, or a way to copy the contents of the disk from a website to a blank CD-ROM? We have misplaced the disk. Also, it's an Acer Aspire 7741Z-5731.
