Problem with Connecting to a VPN

I have a couple of VPN connections that work fine. But, one specific connection gives me the following error: "It was not possible to verify the identity of the server". Using my Android phone with the same exact login credentials, I am able to connect to the VPN without any problems. However, when I try to do so from my computer, I get the above message.

I have a Surface Pro 6 with Windows 10 updated to the most recent update (20H2).

Any suggestions on how to get this to work?

Thanks.

Steve

Hello, sbudaj

My name Is Alonso, I am an independent advisor.

I recommend that you uninstall the VPN credentials, erase the data or configuration related to it, so that you make the connection again from your PC as new to rule out any recent malfunction, if you want you can perform a Windows update this could eliminate the connection problems due to some recent fix to Windows 10 connection protocols

Thank you for the response. I should have said that I have tried to uninstall and remove the credentials and reinstall them. It did not help. Got the same error message.

Since other VPN connections are able to connect without any problem, I am not sure any update would make a difference.

There is something in this particular connection that works from my phone, but not from my computer.

But why don't you try another service that provides you a VPN and see if it works for you or if the same problem occurs? You could try that ...

Now try going to the security option within the connection properties, and uncheck the option that verifies the identity of the servers

Thanks for the response, but I have looked everywhere and cannot find the screen you are referencing. Can you give me detail on where it is located?

Thanks.

Hi

Can you  open event viewer (winlogo+X>event viewer) >expand windows logs>then click on application or system , then look for all the errors relate to VPN>copy and paste one error here if you find one. How to copy the error>on general tab select with your mouse then use your keyboard ctrl+C to copy and click inside your post then from your keyboard ctrl+V to paste.

Does your computer firewall allow your VPN connection?

Right click on the network device you are connected to, then properties and it should appear.

Greetings.

I located an error message in the Application section:

CoId={7373C92E-C276-0000-8C1A-767376C2D601}: The user SYSTEM dialed a connection named VPN Home which has failed. The error code returned on failure is 778.

Just to add some additional info to this situation, the VPN that I am trying to connect to is through my home router (which has a VPN function). I am able to connect using my phone with the same credentials. However, not with my Surface Pro 6. I tried to connect to the home router VPN while I was at home, and it did connect. But when I am outside my home and try to connect through a different WiFi, I get the error previously posted. Not to be redundant, but my phone can connect from any WiFi source with the same credentials.

Thanks.

Thanks.
