Legacy Geforce 6150se nforce 430 -- Random BSOD's with 1709

To try to fix Display issues despite from the age of the display adapter which I've rolled back on my two 6150SEx430 machines to Windows 7:

Check for a newer Display driver on the PC or Display adapter Support Downloads webpage. While there check if there are other newer drivers to Update. You can take your time until they are all updated.

There is a known issue of incorrect Display driver being pushed by Windows Update which requires rolling back the driver. Right click Start to open Device Manager, choose Display device, then Driver tab, then Roll back.

If there is no Roll Back or that doesn't help choose Update Driver on Display device Driver tab, then Browse Computer, then Let Me Pick to see a list of all previously installed Display drivers, work backwards trying each to find one that works.

If necessary you can also go to Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update to look for the driver under Installed Updates and Uninstall it form link there. Then you can hide the driver so it isn't pushed again using the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

If none of those work try to System Restore to a point before the problem began: http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t.... Make sure System Restore is always enabled for C with plenty of disk space apportioned (5-10%) in its Configuration settings.

Thank you.  I have done exactly what you said already.  I'm just trying to make MS aware that 1709 broke the 6150se geforce 430 with the latest update.

1.  Before rolling back -- I made sure I had the latest driver Geforce 309.08 (2015.2.24)

2.  Still received BSOD on the correct driver.

3.  Rolled Back the 1709 update to 1703.

4.  Used the Hide Update Tool to "Hide" the 1709 feature update.

5.  Confirmed the Geforce 309.08 drive worked with 1703 and was stable.

6.  I'm not rolling back to Windows 7 for two reasons:

      a. MS prodded us into installing the Windows 10 update

      b. Windows 10 has been running stable on the 1703 version and didn't give one problem until the 1709 update

The purpose of my post isn't to find a fix for my current situation (I've already figured that out), but rather notify Microsoft that there is in an compatibility with the update and legacy hardware and they shouldn't force the update down if the hardware is detected (like they did with certain AMD video cards)

There seems to be some early adopter issues at this time with Windows 10 1709, if you can, I recommend you downgrade to your previous version until the Fall Creators Update matures with future cumulative updates.

Since you have already done that, the Show/Hide Updates tool should be sufficient to keep it from installing again.

I didn't do the early adopter click through.  Windows 10 determined my system was good to have the update automatically installed.

I have other systems where 1079 hasn't installed because MS knows of incompatibility issues.

If anyone here has the ability to let MS know that 1709 breaks the Nvidia 6150se geforce 430 that would be wonderful so they can add it to the list of non-early adopter auto-installs.

My purpose here is to report a problem and hopefully keep MS from breaking stable PCs of others.

Same identical hardware and software issue here (6150SE GPU, NVidia 309.08 driver)

Found a better test than random BSOD, use Google earth. Runs perfect with Win10 1703, 1709 has rendering problem in main window (all black). Clearly something changed in graphics subsystem.

and this old forum topic from the MS Answers forum needs to be revisited/updated as the 1709 fall creators update release won't work well with nforce 4 & nforce 6 chipsets; hence the BSOD errors occur at random times.

edit 4/5: the BSOD problems in Win10 FCU are also happening on an nforce 630a / Geforce 7025 hardware as well as noted here.
