"Change settings that are currently unavailable" is not shown in "Advanced power settings" menu

    I just reinstalled Windows on my laptop. However, when I wanted to change some power settings in the control panel, a lot of the options were not visible and the "Change settings that are currently unavailable" was no longer there. I managed to change the setting that I needed to change using the registry, but I still want the "Change settings that are currently unavailable" button back since it would be much easier to change the settings in the power options menu directly. Is there a way to restore this option? Thanks in advance.

Click Start > Settings > Privacy > Feedback and diagnostics.
Set it to basic

Click Start
Type: regedit
Right click regedit
Click Run as administrator

Navigate to the following key:


HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection.

Right click and create a DWORD value named AllowTelemetry then set

Press Windows key + R

Type gpedit.msc then hit Enter

Expand Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components

In the Windows Components dialog, find and right-click on Data Collection and Preview Builds
Then double-click Allow Telemetry in the right pane
Choose Disabled and choose 3-Full from the drop-down menu.
Then click OK to save settings

Click Apply and ok > reboot computer

I followed the steps, but the power options menu stayed the same. Are there more for me to do?

BTW, for "Right click and create a DWORD value named AllowTelemetry then set ", I just created the DWORD but didn't change the value of it.

You need to be signed in to a user account with Administrators permissions in order to 'change settings that are currently unavailable.'

Check if you can adjust these settings in the Administrator account:

Open Start
Type: cmd
Right click CMD
Click Run as administrator

At the command prompt, type:
net user administrator /active:yes

Hit Enter

Close command prompt, restart, then try signing into the Administrator account.

The window stayed the same in Administrator account, the line of text is not in there.

I have administrator permissions, but the option is not even displayed.

Forgive me, you don't need to be signed in to a user account with Administrators permissions, but you will need to enter the password to an Administrators account at the User Account Control window.

Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do

Microsoft regularly fiddles with the Windows 10 user interface, which often means that settings are no longer in their familiar places. This also makes it frustrating when we help posters here, because instructions with which we are familiar no longer apply.

I can see the option on that page, but clicking on that doesn't reveal all power options. For now, I guess I have to learn more about the registry and try to edit the settings there.

As I tried to explain earlier, you're not going to find all the settings that you remember in the places where you remember them being. That's particularly true for settings that previously appeared in Control Panel, since Microsoft is trying to gradually eliminate Control Panel.

If there is a specific setting that you are searching for, you will have more success by searching for or asking about that particular setting.

If you think that editing the Windows registry is an answer, there are two things that you should know: 1) not all settings are in the registry and 2) if you make a mistake while in the registry you can cause irreversible harm to your computer now and/or in the future.
