Windows 10 update stops at 82% working on update

Windows 10 update stops or hangs at :82% working on updates "  I have waited overnight, a whole day.... nothing helps

When I reboot it starts attempting to restore to a previous version of windows... Which would be fine if it stops there but It just keeps trying to download and install the update every few hours.  Then wants a restart and then when you restart it goes through the update process again and hangs at 82%.

I can't get it to stop trying!!!!!!   I have uninstalled the update assistant.  I have gone in and stopped and disabled the Windows update in system.

It just keeps coming back.

Thank you for the information, Debbie. Upon checking the model of the computer, the latest updates for its drivers are only in available up to Windows 8.1. The drivers of your computer may be encountering compatibility issues with Windows 10. This can be the reason why you're unable to install the update. We highly recommend contacting Asus so that you can verify they have updates for your drivers which are compatible with Windows 10. You can access this link and click on How to find out an OEM’s contact information to know how to contact Asus.

If you still want to resolve the Windows Update issue, you can follow the steps found in the link that we've provided in our last reply.

Let us know how it goes.

I figured it out for my computer!! It was a hardware conflict of all things. I needed to remove the wifi card from my Gateway computer, manufactured by Anatel. I found the solution on another board and am so relieved, I wanted to share it everywhere. The update ran just fine after removing the card. FYI, I wasn't connected to the Internet using the wifi, just having the card in there was enough to cause a problem.

How did you remove the wifi card from your gateway? I know this has to be the issue as i've read many people with this problem and the same PC as me. However, I cant find how to take the card out of my computer (DX4860) anywhere online. I have no experience with the hardware in my PC i've just opened the side panel and immediately gotten really confused. Any help as to how to remove this wifi card from my gateway would be greatly appreciated.

Taking out the adapter from my Gateway computer resolved the issue.  I then installed a usb Netgear wireless adapter and everything works great.

Hi Linda,

If your Windows 10 device is having trouble installing the latest updates, I suggest resetting the Windows Update components. This operation will refresh all of the components required to download and install the latest updates for Windows 10 and create a new SoftwareDistribution folder for the update files. You will need administrative permission to complete this task.

  1. Download the Reset Windows Update Agent from this page.
  2. Click ResetWUEng.zip and select I agree.
  3. Save the zip file.
  4. Open the file and run ResetWUEng.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions and wait for the process to finish.
  6. Restart your PC.
  7. Run Windows Update.

Let me know how it goes.
