Hi Abdelgadir,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

From the issue description, I understand that you are getting error “You don't have permission to open this file” while accessing it in Windows 10. I will certainly help you with this issue.

Let’s give permission to the file and check if that helps. Follow these steps to give permissions to the drive.

a)      Right-click on the file which you’re unable to access and select Properties.

b)      Click on ‘Security’ tab and under ‘Group or user names’ click on ‘Edit’.

c)       Click on ‘Add’ and type ‘everyone’.

d)      Click on ‘Check names’ and then click ‘OK’.

e)      Select ‘everyone’ and under ‘Allow’ select ‘Full control’ and click on ‘Apply’ and Click ‘Ok’.

Hope this helps. Feel free to get back to us for further queries. We will be happy to assist you.

Thanks and regards,

Jenith

The first thing is how o got Ownership.

After that you will able to access that folder or directory.

If you serious about this then go to repair you System in System and repair options.

Hi Jenith,

I have been trying to access a file using the instructions given above.  Instructions that seem to be written for some other version of windows - I have tried to think about what it is you are trying to do but to no avail it just doesn't seem to be the problem here.  I have permission, everyone has permission to do everything yet still no access.

Any more ideas before I reformat this hard drive?

Thanks

Mel
