80072EFE?

I keep receiving the error code 80072EFE???

Hi VanessaEhredt:

What is your computer make / model, Windows operating system (if Win 10 include your version and build - see the TechSmith article How to Check Windows 10 Build), default browser and antivirus, and what are you doing when you see this 80072EFE error code?  Please note that you posted your question in the Windows Vista board and extended support for this OS ended on 11-Apr-2017.  We'll ask a Forum Moderator to move your question to the appropriate board if you have a different OS.

An error 80072EFE usually means there are issues making an internet connection.  If you have a Vista SP2 OS and see this error when Windows Update runs on your computer please see the VistaForums FAQ What To Do if Windows Update Hangs or Throws an Error [UPDATED August 2020].  Microsoft deactivated the Windows Update servers for older Win XP and Vista computers on 03-Aug-2020, and the Microsoft support article Windows Update SHA-1 Based Endpoints Discontinued for Older Windows Devices shows some of the typical error codes Win XP and Vista users will see if they try to run Windows Update after this date.

These are Vista forums.

If you have a question about Windows 8, you start your own thread and post to the Windows 8 forums.

These are not chat rooms.

And make sure you give all details on the problem you are having and your device's model number.

N.B.: Support for Windows 8, including Windows updates, ended in Jan, 2016!
