Skype Insider Preview // Release Notes for Skype 8.69.76.49

The latest Insider build 8.69 is out and we have some pretty neat improvements for you.

What's New?

  • Introducing the last message avatar in a small circle over the group chat icon so you can easily see who wrote the last message. If you would like to turn it on/off, just go to the appearance settings.
  • Adding support for in-client Skype Number purchases on iOS. Currently available for US & UK Skype Numbers.
  • Updating to Electron 11 to improve the overall performance and fix some bugs caused previous Electron version.
  • Improved Skype for Windows startup performance
  • iOS 13 notifications improvements

What’s fixed?

  • Issues with updating Skype on macOS Big Sur
  • Double badge count in the taskbar icon
  • Issues with buying Skype credit / subscription

As usually all new features are rolling out gradually over the next couple of days so if you don’t see them right away, just check again soon.

Please let us know what you think about the latest changes, either here in the community or through the Skype app. And you can always go to Skype’s User Voice to submit and vote for new features and ideas.

FYI, the apparent Electron bug where the Skype tray icon disappears (it's there but invisible) after about 18-24 hours use is not resolved in any of the 8.69 builds to date.

Considering that 8.69 builds have been out for over two weeks, and that the new Electron is in all of them, that's not one of things gradually rolling out, most likely.

Because you probably have Windows 10 and have the Store version (by default) but also the desktop version (that someone must have installed). You can uninstall one or the other or disable one or the other from starting up automatically if you want to keep both.

I still can't update. Just checked and its saying my version is latest, but its not.. Mine's 8.7...., not 8.9... Still having issues with the volume during video calls..

You'll have to be a lot more specific. It's impossible to know if you're on the desktop or Store version. Or normal vs Insider release for that matter. In the case of non-Insider, 8.69 was just released a few days ago, and it's possible the update mechanism isn't pushing it to everyone yet when you check for updates (you can always update manually).

But since it's still 8.67, I'm going to guess Store, since those updates can mysteriously lag for some people.

Skype for Desktop 8.69.0.77 version, both for Windows and Mac, was for a while available for download from the Downloads site. For some unknown reasons this version was subsequently removed. However, the 8.69.0.77 version is still available for download using this direct download link:

Windows:

Mac:

That's strange, isn't it. Have you heard anything that would justify pulling it?

On my laptop.. Thank you though, as I've used the link posted below to update now. Hopefully, that'll solve my volume problem next time I do a video call..
