Update has removed custom 3:2 aspect resolutions. How do I get these back

I have used a custom 3:2 resolution ever since getting my SP4 as the native display is just too fine for legacy apps. A couple of weeks ago, suddenly my screen was in native and none of my custom resolutions are available for selection; all the default supported resolutions are uselessly different aspects to the screens 3:2 - something many users complained to MS about but which they've never addressed.

I've tried finding how to restore my own custom resolutions. First I found this:

https://dancharblog.wordpress.com/2015/10/26/surface-book-and-surface-pro-4-high-dpi-multi-monitor-optimization-regkey-for-alternate-32-aspect-ratio-resolutions/

I install the Intel driver but I don't have a right-click context menu for graphics properties.

I then found mention of Intel's Graphics Command Centre which I installed but it doesn't allow custom resolutions for internal displays.

Finally I tried this registry hack:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSVp_pBCEgQ

But the Graphics Settings options are still missing. I looked this up on Intel's website:

https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/support/articles/000057360/graphics.html

And they say the new drivers don't have a context menu and to use their "Intel Graphics Control Panel." This does not appear to exist and I guess they mean the Intel Graphics Command Centre app which I installed early and which doesn't allow custom resolutions.

Is it possible for me to use custom 3:2 aspect resolutions on my SP4, or have MS broken that for me?

Custom Resolution Utility is what you're looking for (current version is 1.5.1).

Adding detailed resolutions still works fine, despite them removing the option in the driver. Newly created resolutions appear after a restart.

I reccommend 1368x912 (50%) and 1824x1216 (66.67%).

I am incredibly frustrated with this change. I am legally blind and rely on custom resolutions to be able to use my Surface Pro efficiently like other users. Why they didn't ship the Surfaces with lower 3:2 resolutions bothers the heck out of me, but I was willing to do the extra steps needed in the past to have the custom resolutions. I tried to use everything including the CRU tool but am not having luck getting it to work properly. Why would Microsoft and Intel change something that was "working" and make it so difficult for those that needed this to make our computers usable???

that custom resolutions DID work AFTER a restart, in spite of the driver change.
Did you restart? If this does not solve the problem, are you able to roll back
the video driver?

The custom resolution appeared after I restarted, but doesn't display properly. I am trying to get 1152x768 but it appears the same as 1152x864 with unused black portions on the sides of the screen. I'm not sure if there is a setting within CRU that I am missing to fix this. Any advice?

I'm not able to roll back the video driver unfortunately. I get an error when I try. That was the first thing I tried to do before trying CRU.

The only thing I can suggest is to try uninstalling the CRU, restart your Surface, install it again and try that setting again.

do you have the intel graphics control panel installed along with the driver?

in there you can set the screen scaling to 'maintain aspect ratio', and it will scale up the image.

Otherwise it will default to centering the resolotion on the display leading to the black bars

Thank you for the suggestion! Everything appeared correct when I went into my Intel Graphics Command Center, but I went ahead and reapplied the custom made resolution anyway through the Command Center instead of through the Windows System Preferences and that fixed the issue.

You are some sort of genius :)
