Update 2004 stalls at 61%

I can not install feature update 2004, it stalls at 61% and restarting the computer or turning off my panda dome virus software does not help. I have left it to run for a whole day but it stays on 61% no time out or fault code messages appear it just stops and does not go any further. Tried reanitionlizing download and install no result. I realy do not want to reinstall my computer but this seems as if it might be my only option. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Kregen,

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I want to apologize if you encountered this issue. I understand you have a problem installing feature update 2004.
**Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter

Windows 10: Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, then select Windows Update under Get up and running, and then select Run the troubleshooter.

**Make sure Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer services are available and running.

Click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search text area, and then click services.msc in the programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

Double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
If the Startup status lists Stopped, click Start and then click OK. If the status is Running, click Restart
Double-click Windows Update.
If the Startup status lists Stopped, click Start and then click OK. If the status is Running, click Restart
Double-click Workstation.
If the Startup status lists Stopped, click Start and then click OK. If the status is Running, click Restart
Close the Services window and try to install the feature update again.

Kindly try to use the Windows update Assistant. It downloads and installs feature updates on your device.

If it doesn't work, Kindly try to use the media creation tool and perform an in-place upgrade. It will definitely help in resolving update errors. Performing this can repair broken operating system files while preserving your personal files, settings and installed applications.

Download the media creation tool and save it to your computer.
Open the MediaCreationTool2004 tool and Accept the License terms.
Select Upgrade this PC now and make sure to select Keep personal files and apps.
It might take some time to install Windows 10. Your computer will restart a few times, Make sure you don’t turn off your PC.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further concerns.

Sincerely

I was having this issue as well and fixed it by using the Update Assistant instead of the Media Creation Tool with just a few clicks.  From start to finish it took roughly and hour with a few restarts.

Worked like a charm while all else failed.  Your information was helpful.

Thanks!

thanks for your reply. I have a feeling that the reason my 2004 update stalls at 61% is that i do not have the whole 1909 updates on my computer yet, even though i was invited to download and install the 2004 update. I am still getting weekly 1909 updates. So unless somebody rebuts this hypothesis i will wait before i use the Update Assistant. cheers

Well finnaly got it to work, but I had to reset my computer first with recovery so that it was back to the state it was in when it was new. Sometime you just you just have to accept that a complete reinstalation is needed.

I had the same issue on a Surface Pro 4. I gave up trying for a while. I've just tried again, and it has proceeded to Installing - 100%.

The update assistant worked for me. Thanks very much for the tip!

I'm a big Microsoft fan and have been for years. But this update was just terrible.

One of my computers stalled at 61%, another has my Western Digital External hard drives no longer mounting properly.  And ALL the computers at our work required their server authentication fixed after the update.

Person who tested this update should be tarred and feathered!
