How do I stop Teams from starting on its own?

Disabled it in startup.

Disabled it from app settings.

Nothing helps :(

Hi,

I'm Rodell, Independent Advisor and a Microsoft User like you. Let me help you out with your concern.

If you're using Windows 10:
To stop Teams from launching automatically, click on Start / Settings / Apps / Startup. Turn off Microsoft Teams.

For MS Teams settings:
Settings. Uncheck Auto-start application. While you’re there, also uncheck On close, keep the application running and Register Teams as the chat app for Office.

Launch the Task Manager, click the “Startup” tab, locate “Microsoft Teams” in the list, and click “Disable.”

Let me know if that worked out well for you. Feel free to ask me if you need further assistance.

Regards,
Rodell

Hi,

There are multiple uservoices of disabling the start up option, such as this

https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555......

There is one here to turn off autostart for the entire tenant which may be closer to what you need.

https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555......

If these don't cover exactly what you need I would raise this as a new uservoice. To note however, it could be some time to get picked up and really, I think the general desire from organisations to use Teams is more to have autostart on by default rather than off.

Regards,
Rodell

Hey Rodell,

I looked at those articles you mentioned, they are talking about some policy.

I don't think I understand it.

Any easy way out?

Hi,

There are a lot of users too experiencing this. Since Teams don’t have yet the permanent solution for this, that is why these articles are being raised for up votes. Apologize if this doesn’t work out for you.

Yes you can try to reinstall and clear cache the MS Teams.

MS Teams doesn't show in the start up list in settings/apps/startup or the Task Manager start up tab.  The check box is unchecked in MS Teams settings as well.

The only way I have found to stop MS Teams from auto starting on bootup or restart is to right click and choose quit thru the task bar notification area.

I have done all of this and it still starts on its own. It does not even appear in Start / Settings / Apps / Startup. I have also done this - Settings. Uncheck Auto-start application. While you’re there, also uncheck On close, keep the application running and Register Teams as the chat app for Office. I even un-installed and re-installed the program. NOTHING works. If it wasn't for needing to work remotely I would just remove it and leave it off.
