How do I disable Dark mode in 365 for Mac?

Dark mode in the Mac OS is excellent.

Dark mode in office 365 for Mac is poorly implemented (IMHO) ... how do I turn it off?

I need to have compatibility with Windoze 365 (educational videos and screenshots etc.)

Thanks.

I did get this terminal workaround to work for me but capitalized the app names.

From https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/346579/how-can-i-remove-dark-mode-from-ms-office-apps-without-disabling-it-across-mac

  • Each of the app names within the command must start with an uppercase letter (note the uppercase 'E' for Excel in the command at Step 3.
  • For PowerPoint, the app name must be spelt as follows: Powerpoint (i.e. only the first P is in uppercase, not both Ps)

I've tried the above and this is not working for me. Outlook still starts in Dark mode! :-(

Hi KaylemSpirit,

Please ensure your apps are completely shut down (if you're unsure, restart your computer and don't open any apps when you login):

Open Terminal and run the desired command below:

For Outlook:
defaults write com.microsoft.Outlook NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance -bool yes

For Excel:
defaults write com.microsoft.Excel NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance -bool yes

For Powerpoint:
defaults write com.microsoft.Powerpoint NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance -bool yes

For Word:
defaults write com.microsoft.Word NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance -bool yes

Once the desired commands above have been run, execute the below(this should be the last command executed):
killall cfprefsd

Do they work?

Cheers,

BleverCastard

EDIT: If you would like to from aqua to dark mode, replace yes with no
