Working on a Dell Latitude E5580 laptop with Windows 7 Professional installed.
The computer and printer are both on a network domain. The end user attempted to connect the printer, and got the above error message. I attempted as well on the Administrator login - got the same error. Any other computer on the network can connect to this
printer except this one.
Here are the steps I have taken - none of which worked.
1) One of the most common steps that resolved this issue in the past is deleting five file names from C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore
drvindex.dat
INFCACHE.1
infpub.dat
infstor.dat
infstrng.dat
This step has worked flawlessly in resolving printer issues connecting, however this computer said heck to the no I will not be fixed this way.
2) I have gone into the registry looking for any/all instances of said printer and deleted them from the registry. Especially these spots here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Printers > Connections
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Print > Providers > LanMan Print Services > Servers > Printers
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Print >Environments >Windows x64 >Drivers > Version-3
3) Attempted connecting the printer via a cmd prompt utilizing "net use LPT2: \\servername\printer" No luck on this one either
I am at a loss on how to resolve this one. At the point of just wiping the computer and starting all over. If anyone has an idea of what I can attempt to resolve this please post away...other than just wipe it and start over.
