Windows 10 update issue due to error 0x800f0831

Dear,

I'm on Windows 10 1903. Every few days the systems attempts to update itself but finally reverts.

KB4577671 error 0x800f0831

This drives me crazy.

I tried to get help from Microsoft support. During the last session they even deliberate managed to shut down my the computer while they where on remote assistance. End of shift? So far for my confidence I Microsoft support.

I checked a few things

1. scf /scannow finds no problem

2. dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth results in

[=========                  15.5%                          ]
Error: 4448
The WOF driver encountered a corruption in the compressed file's Resource Table.
The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

I'm not smart enough to understand the log file.

3. I attempted a full Windows 10 install from media it also failed. Problem during the second boot, whatever that means, and revert to the earlier version as well.

I'm not willing to reinstall this pc from scratch since I have some music editing applications configured and working in a way that I'm really doubt I can ever reconstruct it the same way.

I believe the problem is in the corrupted file encountered by dism. Can anyone help me out?

Kind regards,

Sarah

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is William. I'm a Microsoft Windows Certified Professional and Systems Administrator. I'll be happy to help you out today.

Refer to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/m...

In short, check your cbs.log (should be the log file you eluded to), or check C:\Windows\Logs\CBS for the log. You should be looking for the line "Store corruption, manifest missing for package: <Missing KB Package>", where "Missing KB Package" should be kb1234567.

Have you tried to manually download and install this update? You can get it from https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search... as 2020-10 Cumulative Update for Windows Server, version 1903 for x64-based Systems (KB4577671).

I have the same issue, with Windows 10 update KB4580386 for x64.

It installs until 20%, then hangs and never successfully finishes. After a few days, same story again, And again. And again. For over a month now.

Manual installation does not solve this, same problem as for automatic updates from inside the Windows update envirnoment.

Hi Sahara,

This can be solved if you do in place installation. download windows 10 20h2 and make an iso file > then extract the iso > then access the installation folder then start the setup.exe > then accept keep files and apps then follow the process. If you don't have extract option download 7zip and install it. Leave a feedback

Good Luck

Dear Linvincible,
I'm sure I tried this before, I tried so many things I'm not sure what I did or not, but just to make sure I tried it again today. Unfortunately, no result.

After a few reboots I get the message that it's undoing changes and then I'm back to square 1.

"We couldn't install Windwos 10.

0xC1900101 - 0x40017

The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase an error during BOOT operation"
The system has no anti-virus, in case you are wandering.

Hello,

My organisation does not allow me to share OneDrive with Anyone. So I used dropbox instead.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6qyqjd2l791q6bn/AAD_JCDNb_mEb5pRLM_feKlsa?dl=0

The files are in subdirectories of Panther and have .log extentions instead of .txt. I've added a prefix in the name to indicate where I've found them.

There are 2 recent APPRAISER_HumanReadable.xml and 2 old files.

I really hope you can find a clue of what is blocking this upgrade.
