Skype Insider Preview // Introducing The New Emoticon Picker // 8.34.76.37 // Available on Android, iPhone, iPad and desktop for Windows, Linux and Mac

Whether you’re sending a thumbs up, a high five or just skipping around, our emoticons have a new lease of life in Skype! We are super excited to share we now have over 750 options, where you can express how you are feeling with our uniquely animated emoticons!

Another fun fact, we’ve overhauled our color pallet so you can choose your theme, send what you want, and still see it all! The penguin kiss or sad bat will no longer disappear on the dark theme, you can now see every emoticon on every background and bubble color combination in Skype.

How do I send them?

Open Skype, select a contact to chat with and open the expression picker by clicking on the smiling face.

Additionally, in the hand and person tab, long press (mobile), or right click (desktop),  and a popup will appear with 6 different tone options. Click the one you want and it will be placed inside your message box. You can send the emoticons separately or with text, the choice is yours.

So, what’s next?

That’s up to you! We have some ideas around future emoticons, but we would love to hear from you. Send us your ideas about an emoticon you’d like to see on Skype and we’ll work to make it happen!

Go Skype & express yourself!

I think Skype 8 has much bigger problems than more emoticon.  But I don't need to understand the priority list.

That was my first thought, too. The deck chairs are fine where they are.

But now we can express that in over 750 ways!

I like them! They move. That's cool.

If I could just get a good working link to Insider Skype for Windows (7 & 8.1). I'd try the new skin tones. :-(

Oh, and some of your recent additions don't move. This will not do!!! Rose, wilted, hamburger, and strawberry. What's with that? Make em move too. Please

Add a golfer. A golf green, and why not, bocce ball. (I'm not joking!)

How about Windows Mobile?

Don't forgot that Windows Mobile is still supported and you should provide support and update for it.

Skype App is also build on UWP meaning one design run on Windows Desktop and Windows Mobile.

Hi,

If you are asking for Skype on Windows 10 Mobile (phones), as far as know, there are no plans for further development for Skype on that platform:

01. Here is a tweet, proving that the Skype version for Windows phones will remain on version 12:

02. And an older thread on Twitter, that proves, that SMS Relay for Windows phones will be removed with version 14 of the desktop UWP app & there will be no way to redirect SMS messages to your PC/laptop for Windows phone users. However, this functionality is due to be enabled for Android & iOS users.

03. Also: Windows 10 for PC is different than the one for mobile., hence the desktop environment is currently different than the mobile one, since the mobile one gets only security & stability fixes, but not any OS updates/functionality. So UWP apps for desktop will not work correctly, if at all, on mobile, which is now few versions behind the desktop OS.

There are rumors that all platforms would be merged (Windows OneCore, Andromeda, etc), but nothing has happened so far...

True, but this strategy is wrong.

Skype is getting ready and will work on Kindle soon but it doesn't provide support for Windows 10 Mobile. This strategy will harm market share, competitors like WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber are providing good support for Windows Mobile 10.

I am using Skype version 8.33.0.41 Application  14.33.41.0 on windows 10 pro through a Lenovo E580 laptop.

For whatever reason clicking on the moji icon, freezes and crashes Skype instantly. I am not sure how often this happens with others, but I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Skype already. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Stephen

1) you're not on Insider. So you might not have the new emoticons features (yet) . But no worries, maybe Insider isn't your thing.

2) Crashing is a bug. You did the right thing to reinstall. So, generally Skype will want you to send feedback, so they can figure out the problem. Click on the feedback tab and explain the problem as clearly as you can. Other than that, maybe try to be patient. Skype for sure will want to fix it.

Aha, such misfeatures are the top-priority ?

This explains, why all versions since 8.30 - up to the latest one (8.34.0.78) are completely broken on GNU/Linux and crash directly at startup and therefore totally unusable.

We've reported this issue months ago, several times. We even gave detailed analysis, so any decent GNU/Linux developer could have fixed this in a matter of minutes.

But nobody cared.

Hey, if you don't wanna support GNU/Linux anymore, just tell it openly and stop making false claims.

This is very unprofessional.

In the improbably case, you still wanna fix these problems (yes, there're dozens of them in Skype), feel free to call me. Otherwise I'll have to continue removing completely Skype from my client's corporate environments.
